just saw Letters from Iwo Jima, I am easily entertained but what a great movie. Wasnt expecting it to be from the p.o.v. of the Japanese but it was a pleasant surprise. I heard an aweful lot about Iwo Jima in my days in the Marine Corps and it was nice to get some perspective from the other side. I didnt know who to root for much of the time and I think that was the point. That the 'bad guys' are human too, as corny as that may sound. Definitely no coincidence that it came out when it did, with all the shit thats going on in this crazy world, killings etc, the govt's portrayal of the 'terrorists.' It's easy to forget that just because someone wants to kill you doesnt *necesarily* make him less human.

It also kind of pissed me off b/c it reminded me of when I was on ship and we came to IwoJima but I was on mess duty. still bitter about that. I requested and got a day off but everyone in my command on my my ship was too busy being important to look out for me. Most of the guys I normally worked with were on a different ship. And so I didnt get to get off that motherfucking boat.

O well. At least I'm seeing good movies now. Every single one I've been to of late has been fantastic. Prestige, Casino Royale, Good Sheperd, Borat, Iwo Jima, Little Miss Sunshine, heck even Apocolypto had a pretty awesome second half or so. Although the first half was every bit as bad as the second was good. I'm tired of writing so I'm gonna stop.
