Why do cows attack? A fortnight ago a cow left David Blunkett with a black eye and cracked rib. Now a vet walking her dogs has been trampled to death by cattle. Why?

I didn't read far enough to share the answer but I did find out:

Spring and early summer is when cows feel most vulnerable.

Fortunately the main image is accompanied by a reassuring caption:

Cow attacks are rare.

This makes me feel better.
