On the way home from work this evening a car pulled in front of me. When it happened I was pulling away (slowly) from being stopped at a traffic light. I had just moved past the stopping point when a Smart car sped across my path coming from my right making (for them) a right turn across oncoming traffic (this is the UK so we drive on the left). They were the last car taking a right turn arrow but one that doesn't go red (on other words there is a green light for them plus an arrow then the arrow disappears). I swerved (if I had braked then I would have been shunted by the car behind me) and would have made it but they braked at the last minute because they were about to hit the cyclist who also had started to move off from the green light (in my opinion they should have yielded for the oncoming traffic).

My left foot caught the rear bumper of the car and burst the boot open (see pics) plus broke the front plastic toe cap off. I was going pretty slowly (say 10-15 mph) but enough force to snap off the left rear foot rest (see pics).

There is a slight graze on the left front faring where it brushed the car but since I was veering right it didn't push it in too far. To be honest I think it will polish out. The engine cover also got brushed very lightly. It's not actually scratched just buffed.

The foot rest is attached to the frame so my main concern is if any damage has been transferred to that? I guess it missed the gear lever totally because it looks fine and there were no problems with gear changes on the way home (although obviously it was kind of an odd gear changing action without a foot rest).

Also, on the left rear set photo you can see that there is a little scratching to the chain guard which I presume was caused by the heel of the boot. Finally the warning sticker in the swing arm is scratched but not the swing arm itself.

Thank goodness I was wearing those boots. Don't want to think what a foot looks like after it severs an aluminium foot peg clean from the bike (it's a little stiff and bruised feeling as it is but nothing is sprained or broken).
