God and the price of religion...
So I probably should just make a thread of this in the Atheist Group, and I guess I will, but for now I'd like to share my own personal views and opinions to the public.
Warning! I'm a proud atheist, and anything said on my behalf is going to be bias, but that doesn't mean I'm not willing and open to other peoples views and ideas.
First off I would like to praise the people who are good Christians, Muslims, Buddhists, etc. You are the minority though, and that's frankly what sickens me.
CHRISTIANITY
I'll start with the group that angers me the most (not hate, I don't hate anyone), and that's the Christians. Yes the Muslim fanatics right now are doing some pretty horrific things, but historically they've got a lot of catching up to do before they're even close to the christians.
Christianity started as a group of Jews following the teachings of one Jesus of Nazareth. He had some pretty profound and revolutionary ideals for the time, that were especially popular amongst the down trodden jews. Things like, love your neighbor, we're all equal in gods eyes, and don't be a hypocrite. One of the main things he said that people tend to forget conveniently is... Oh and like a good atheist I've read the bible, quran, and other religious texts so I know for certain what I DON'T believe... Mathew 6:16 says...
"When you fast, do not look somber as the hypocrites do, for they disfigure their faces to show men they are fasting. I tell you the truth, they have received their reward in full. But when you fast, put oil on your head and wash your face, so that it will not be obvious to men that you are fasting, but only to your Father, who is unseen; and your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you."
That says to me, don't go around bragging about how good of a christian you are. Which is really what most churches have become these days. It's one big giant pat on the back for how holier than thou all christians are and how they'll be dining in the halls of heaven while all the muslims, jews, buddhists, atheists, wiccans, etc. etc. burn in hell forever. Real nice.
Also, their views on Gays and Lesbians is just absurd. Homosexuality occurs naturally in animals, but strangely enough... RELIGION does not. If I had a preference toward males, which sometimes I wish I did, it would make things much simpler because you women are impossible to understand, but I love vagina too much, and even my own penis is a turnoff to me. But yea, sexual preference SHOULD NOT be, in any religion, a reason to ostracize someone from that faith.
I read a book on the history of the catholic church (shortly after the Book of Judas was uncovered) and it turns out that Catholicism wasn't even the mainstream sect of Christianity following Jesus' death, but it was the one that won out by shutting up all the other off shoots led by the other apostles. No wonder they have all sorts of weird rites and rituals that AREN'T anywhere in the bible!
Let's not forget that the whole concept of immaculate conception comes straight out of Roman Mythology, so does the whole rising from the tomb to ascend to heaven... sounds a lot like someone else we all know... Hercules anyone? Read real roman mythology, not the disney stuff.
That brings up another good point. The Romans, namely Constantine who put together the books of the bible, with of course a little editing of his own. He decided which books to put in, and which to leave out. Things like the Book of Mary Magdelene, The Book of Judas, and countless pages of other books that were contradictory. All to create this nice and neat book that would subdue the masses of christians forming in Rome, and so it would show that the Emperor of Rome supported the religion of the people, so they wouldn't topple the empire.
And what's the number 1 rule of any religion? Blind Faith. If there weren't rebels of this horrific rule, there'd be no scientific research, exploration or advancement of mankind. Carl Sagan wrote in his final book "Only in our time do we have a chance to uncover even some of the answers. Not through guesses or myths, but through real repeatable verifiable evidence."
More to come on Islam, and the rest of the crew later....

Ok sounds kind of stupid to say that and not something deep on religions, but I don't realy like religons. I love the "don't be hypocrite" and " love one an other" but most people get stuck on " our book says we'll hate each other for heternity so I will fight without thinking more about it".
Anyways
Hope your new year started good
