This song is apart of Aaron Lewis' solo effort into Country.
He is the lead singer of Staind in case you all didn't know. With this group though, I figured everyone who reads this would know.
I am definitely a fan of Staind. I like pretty much all their albums.
I download Aaron Lewis' solo EP called Town Line. iTunes has it here. I'm not a fan of iTunes so Amazon has it here. I fucks with Amazon. I don't mess with iTunes cuz I don't have an iPhone and I am not an Apple drone lol (no offense to the Apple crowd )
I like his solo effort because I am a fan of Country music but I feel like Country Boy is pandering to the good ole boys, tea party folk, and the anti-liberal bunch. I understand the crowd that he is trying to reach but not all of us that love Country music, feel the same way. I grew up in the Country. I know about all the stuff that he sings about but I feel like it just feeds into the stereotypes of what country boys are.
Some of us are "Starbucks Liberals" lol. Even though I don't drink a lot of Starbucks; my bro-in-law loves it. But you get the point, I guess.
This is not a knock at anyone who fits what he describes.
Lyrics:
Now I grew up down an old dirt road in a town you wouldnt know.
My Pops picked the place up for fifteen hundred bucks back in 1964.
My grandfather was a drinker back in the day he
put em down
but a war is known to change a man, and the whiskeys known to change a man
but thats not me.
I rarely drink from the bottle
but Ill smoke a little weed.
I still live in the sticks where you wouldnt go in a town of 1200 off an old dirt road and a country boy is all Ill ever be.
Now its been 12 years since Ive sold my soul to the devil in L.A.
He said sign your name here on the dotted line and your songs they all will play.
He set up shop on Sunset
he put me up at the Marquee
he said "you want to sell a million records boy, you better listen to me".
He said "change your style
whiten your smile
you could lose a couple pounds
if you want to live this life you better lose that wife
do you need your friends around?" And I said
no thats not me.
The biggest things in life are my friends and family.
And I like my jeans and my old t shirts and a couple extra pounds never really hurt cause a country boy is all Ill ever be cause Hank taught me just how to stay alive.
youll never catch me out the house without my 9 or .45.
I got a big orange tractor and a diesel truck
and my idea of heaven is chasing white tail bucks
and as a country boy I know I can survive
now two flags fly above my land that really sum up how I feel.
One is the colors that fly high and proud
the red the white the blue
the other ones got a rattle snake with a simple statement made
Dont Tread on Me is what it says and Ill take that to my grave because this is me
I'm proud to be American and strong in my beliefs.
And Ive said it before but Ill say it again cause I've never needed Government to hold my hand
And Ive said it before and but Ill say it again cause my familys always fought and died to save this land and a country boy is all Ill ever be.
I love my country, I love my guns, I love my family, I love the way it is now, and anybody that tries to change it has to come through me, that should be all of our attitudes, cause this is America, and a country boys good enough for me, son.
