Given that liberals are necessarily optimistic about people, I'm not really surprised with the discussion in the HP group of this website. I think it odd that they cling to the hope that certain characters are not really evil, and that others really are infallible.
For my part, I wonder why more readers don't trust Harry's instincts about people.
The story is really a coming of age story, so I suppose that it was necessary that the end come outside the safety of school and into the real world, just as it was necessary that the last protector be swept aside so that Harry could become responsible.
Personally, I hope that the school isn't mentioned at all in the next book, until the end, where Harry becomes the best and longest serving DDA teacher in Hogwart's history.
