Sooo I went to see X-men last night, as I have seen every x-men opening night (C'mon I've got Rogue Tattooed On my Calf). Overall, I liked it, however, the comic book geek in me wanted to throw things are the movie screen. While they didn't openly exploit any characters it just seemed sad to me that for instance Famke Janson (excuse the spelling) is one of characters in which the plot circles, yet she hardly speaks throughout the movie perhaps it's because she "lives inside her head" I dont know. I didn't like that they killed off Cyclops, so early in the movie, because they didn't really "define" his role as the leader of the x-men. WHAT I FUCKING HATE THE MOST is that they have made Rogue into this whiney fucking douche bag of a character throughout the whole series of movies. You know I thought she would actually suit up for this one and kick some ass, but what is she doing? What ? no she goes and gets the cure and disappears for the whole big fight scene. Great. Rogue, for all the new gen of kiddos who havent read the comic books, is just a douche who complains about her powers and her boyfriend. Nice.
I thought Kelsey Grammar did a really good job as Beast, I thought that I would be watching him and be thinking look it's a "Blue Frasier!" but that didn't happen! I was disappointed in Alan Cummings' absence in bringing Nighcrawler to the screen once again, and the plain jane they cast as Kitty. It's almost like they Said okay, we're gonna cast these really hot main characters in James Marsden (Cyclops) Hugh Jackman (wolverine duh) Halle Berry, Famke Janson ,Rebecca Romjin and everybody else are fuglies or plain as can be.
I am glad they had a good ending to the story, and I am sure the plot was so thick they couldnt probably afford to do any extra chracter development, but still. Killing off Jean Grey because of the whole phoenix thing kinda makes me batty, because her being the dark phoenix is what brings complexity to her character in the comic book. It's just Hollywood, people only fucking care about wolverine and storm, so they were the only ones left standing, bleh. Us comic book nerds never get any satisfcation.
Despite all of this, I still think it was a good movie, if you sit and ignore all of the comic book stuff, the plot was awesome, Magneto is just awesome as usual. I am not sure if this one was better than the second one. There are just way too many characters to do proper plot development, I am pretty disappointed on how the treated the whole phoenix character thing. But damn if she wasn't hot as shit. And Halle Berry was pretty fucking good too, and storm is probably my least favorite character, I have no idea why, she just usually gets under my skin. But clearly you have to define the comic books from the movie. Then you are looking at three amazing stories.
okay, i think that's the end of my rantings...
