Hey everyone! Today was my first day working at the Verizon Wireless Call Center in Huntsville. I walked away in awe and wonder, I've never worked for a company who treats their employees as good as they do.
I spent all last week wondering if I made the right decision. I mean I kept telling myself that I did, but there was always that little voice of doubt. Today, I walked away knowing that I probably made THE best decision of my life.
This morning, I still wasn't exactly sure what to wear. I didn't really know how dressy I needed to be. So, I took 2 tops and my jacket and decided in the parking lot what to wear. So, there I was at 10 till changing in my car. Haha! Anyway, I got in there and after we went through the appropriate lines for our paperwork, they served us breakfast from the Atlanta Bread Company. It was delicious. There was so so so much to choose from. After that, we had to sit through orientation where we met all the people in charge. There was 160 people crammed in this room (just new hires) and needless to say, it was HOT! I was sweating. Also, the chairs in there HURT! My back and ass was hurting bad. I was so happy when we got to divide into our groups for our actual training class. I was ironically in the Blue group, I thought that was so appropriate. We have 25 in there and that's our place for the complete 7 weeks of classroom training. We also then divided into smaller groups of 3. I love mine so far, we get along great! I couldn't ask for better. Also, I swear my teammate Regina, has to be THE prettiest black girl I have ever seen in my life. And she is so super sweet. She was freezing today so at lunch I brought in my Captain Jack blanket for her to use! LOL! They also supplied us lunch as well, Atlanta Bread Company again. MMMMmmmmm!
A few things that just wowed me was that if I had an emergency tonight, I could go to the doctor and 90% of it would be covered NOW! No waiting at all. That is amazing. Also, 401K is dollar per dollar matched up to 6%. And you are fully vested after only 3 years. I am allowed to apply for supervisor positions after only 9 months. If I want to hold out and try for one of the goverment positions (that includes handling calls for all of the goverment) I have to wait a year. That to me is great! I also found out that I could possibly go back and get my MBA without worry. They will pre-pay up to $8000 for tuition and books. It makes me sad that I'm actually finished with college. Also, they said that if we wanted to help out with an organization or charity, they would match our hours worked and cut a check for that for the organization or if we made a contribution, they would double it. It can even be for what you put into the church offering plate. I'm not going to continue b/c I'm probably boring you. Needless to say, I was blown away by all they give you all at day one of hire. The only bad thing was that about half way through the day I realized how spoiled I got on my vacation. I wanted my nap so bad!!!
The best thing today was how great they made us feel. They told us to remember that we are THE BEST OF THE BEST in all this area. That they don't go through all that screening process for nothing. They said out of 2000 people that showed up at the meet and greet, only 10% of those we hired as of now. Also, we should be considered lucky to be in the very first class. They said that once the supervisor jobs start opening up, we will be the first considered. YAY!
I'm just so so so excited for the wonderful opportunity. I am counting my blessings! It's going to be great tomorrow seeing how I'm going to be all dressed up since we have to be in "business professional" attire. I'll be looking good tomorrow! Can't wait. I finally feel great!!!!!!!
