Happy 4th everyone!!
I'm sitting here putting off getting ready as usual. I've got about 30 minutes before I have to be at the church for our family's "hog roast." We all get together there since there are so many of us. We also invite people from around the community as well. We always have so much food that you walk away so full you can't move. We have pork, ribs, Bar-B-Q, fried chicken, roasted chicken, and dozens and dozens of casseroles and random pot luck things that people bring. Yum! Ok, now I really need to wrap this up and go get ready!
Anyway, today has been a pretty awesome day so far. I went to my grandfather's house and collected his big box of old pictures. I spent the day going through them and scanning in pictures of my family. I was mainly searching for some of my great-grandmother Emma (my dad's mom's mom). Tomorrow, I plan on going to my grandmother on my mom's side and going through those as well. Her mother was named Emma as well (she later changed it to Emmie). So, hopefully one day I will have a daughter and get to keep the family name going. But, for now, I want to collect as many pictures and stories that I can while the people are still around to tell them. I love family history.....one of the small things that makes me happy. My dad sat around with me today telling all kinds of stories about the people I came across. It was very funny. I'll probably do a blog tomorrow with a few pictures and stories.
Another thing, I was taken back to my childhood a little this morning. I woke up and watched the movie Camp Nowhere. Anyone remember that one? I loved that movie. I remember swooning over Jonathan Jackson and Andrew Keegan so bad, wishing I could go to a summer camp like that. I also realized that it had a young Jessica Alba in it. That was kinda awesome. I wanted to include a clip but this is all I could find on YouTube and it's just a spoof someone put together.
