I have returned from my first ever visit to foreign shores and, indeed, my first ever time on this new fangled machine known as an 'aeroplane'. I had never heard of this metal winged beast until recent times but feel I have now conquered it and never shall I fear it again.
The above picture was snapped in the Louvre and I feel it is actually really quite nice. Something in the sun's reflection stands it out as my fave pic of the trip.
Anyway, it all went smoothly and all the main tourist destinations were visited - Louvre, Eiffel Tower, Notre Dame, Sacre Coeur, Arc De Triomphe, Musee D'Orsay and the Centre Georges Pompidou. Although we only spent about ten minutes in the latter due to abject tiredness and needing to go back to the hotel. I also managed to visit Jim Morrison's grave and that felt pretty intense. I've been a Doors fan since I was about 10 and it just tugged on the heart strings a little. Really beautiful cemetary though is Pere Lachaise, although looking down into some of the open tombs kind of gave me the shivers.
Also paid a visit to Saint Sulpice and didn't realise until we were inside that it was mentioned in the da vinci code. Only realised when we saw people taking pictures of the rose line. Beautiful place though - the most impressive building we saw I think.
Also had a gander around the red light district and visted the erotic museum. It wasn't very erotic. Just lots of large wooden penises and some screens showing thirties porn. Almost got co-erced into a peep show but avoided that. Damn. The sex shops are a little on the mad side also - all manner of 'toys' I've never even dreamed about. I'm such an innocent.
Overall, I guess I'm regretting now waiting 28 years before boarding a plane. As much, as I didn't really enjoy the experience, I didn't despise it as much as I thought and neither was I violently ill.
Oh, and I got engaged too!
