Thanks to all for your concern. I'll elaborate on the situation a bit.
Dad and mom winter at the gulf coast every season. They were driving about when dad's vision blurred out and went to nothing. Mom is a nurse so she recognized it as a possible stroke and took him straight away to a drop in emergency clinic. They did some MRI scans and found a mass in his brain, which I'm guessing created the pressure that zonked out his vision. Whether it's benign or not I don't know and neither do they, but he has had cancer once before and that's not so good.
My brother is driving down from Iowa as we speak to help get the RV back to Iowa since they can't trust dad behind the wheel. For now he's on steroids to keep any brain swelling down, but other than that not much will be known in terms of prognosis until he can get back to Iowa to his normal physician. The writing is on the wall though; he's 80 years old, has had a long history of bad health, and has been getting weaker and weaker over the years. In his case the cure will most likely be as bad as the condition, and I'm assuming doctors will say to make him comfortable and let it run it's course.
Honestly some things make sense now. He'd been getting forgetful and spacey. We were going to go to lunch and he went to put his socks on and was just sitting there like he was zoned out. And his driving was scary as well. Poor judgement, not paying attention, and almost getting in accidents. Four our of five of in the car screamed on more than one occasion.
All I can really do is wait and see what happens. Hope for the best, but prepare for the worst.
On top of this all the Missouri Revenue department sent me a nice letter stating I hadn't filed taxes in 2007 and as such owe them a little over three grand in taxes, fees, and general fuck me in the ass charges. This is preposterous. I not only had my taxes done professionally, but I was even given a refund that year. Fortunately for me I kept all my tax records from around 2004 on and I have all the necessary paperwork to prove that I indeed filed, and that their assessment is complete and utter bullshit. But I'm going to have to jump through all their hoops to prove it, and I really don't need that right now.
I ate something shitty recently. Expect a right up.

I once had the IRS claim I hadn't filed my taxes as well, and like you I also have mine done professionally. Plus I have them file it electronically. I just called my accountant and had him take care of it, hopefully you can do the same to take the burden off of you at this time.
