This is so typical Ren and I....
Sunday, when I went out to the horses, the owner of the place had found to abandoned kittens (wild cats, their mother had pushed them away) that were almost frozen to death.
We took them to a vet hospital to have them euthanized, but it was closed.
We put them in a warm place and cleaned their eyes because they were full of pus and completely infected. We also managed to get som sugared water in them because they seemed dehydrated.
Unfortunately, while we went horse riding, one of the kittens died. I decided, upon a brief conversation with Ren, to take the other one home. We definitely don't have the space for 3 cats, but I simply couldn't leave the poor little guy.
Monday, we took him to the vet. Apparantly, he's about 5 months old (he's changing his teeth), weighed 800 grams which is what a kitten of 7 weeks is supposed to weigh), he's full of worm, has a cold and an eye infection, extremely mal-nourished. You can feel every single bone in his body.
We asked the vet if he was better off being euthanized, but she said that because it was us (I think we know our vet to well... ) we should give him a chance even though all odds are against him.
So, he's on anti-biotics, gets eyedrops, and is being de-wormed. He also got a bath (which he of course despised) and of course lots of TLC. First trip at the vet cost us about $160. If he's alive and well in 3 weeks, then he's going to the vet's again for a vaccination, he was too fragile to vaccinate now. Too skinny and too sick.
Some pics of the little darling, they aren't too good...
Problem is now, -we're getting too attached to the little fellow!
We're considering trying to find another home for one of our other cats (we got her from the same place as the kitten) because she's very hostile toward our first cat. We've had her for 6 months and our first cat has become really shy and nervous because the other one always hisses and chases her.
Tough decisions....
Oh, had my first exam today, I think it went quite well actually. I found it to be easy, we'll se if it was when I get the result on Monday!
I also found out that I'm allowed to have the cats in the apartment in Greenland, now I have to find out how to get them there, coz I heard that generally, the airline doesn't allow animals....
Have a great weekend everybody!
