I just got done reading where Forbes magazine or somebody published a list of the ten most miserable cities in the U.S., and my own town of Providence rounds out that list at no. 10. The ratings take into account stuff like unemployment rate, abundance of toxic waste sites, taxes, and weather. Taxes here, apparently, are second only to those in nyc, and I guess that is mainly what got us on the list (hooray!).
I don't know if I'd really call Providence miserable, but I'm not surprised to see us on that list, and there are, admittedly, some depressing aspects of living here. I'm curious to see what the ten happiest cities might be, so that I might consider moving to one of them. My guess is that Santa Cruz, Calif. would probably appear on such a list, but I dunno...
