First off is something my 15yr old self would have obsessed over back in like 1996. I loved OG industrial music but legit dont like NIN though so dont get it twisted. That Skinny Puppy shit was fine but Ministry and KMFDM are always good by me.
May seem like a hard turn but synthwave is directly connected to OG industrial metal. Just look at Rammstein or Electric Call Boy. You are aloud to shake your ass while you sacrifice babies to satan. No one judging you. But I do love me some Gunship and Carpenter Brut.
Now for a real hard turn....Hozier. I cannot put one of these without the other. This is one of my favorite album intros I have heard in a very very very long time from a music stand point. This almost has Floyd vibes but not really. Either was I fucking adore these 2 songs on his new album
Now this one is new, I have known about Ren for 2 or 3 years now but it seems he is know operating on another level. He could be an industry plant but it would only demonstrate that the industry can have moments of genius which if you believe Zappa was also an industry plant you also cannot deny his genius. Is what it is but this song is still on another level.
Now, back to metal. Have I mentioned I adore In Flames? Can probably start to see why with some of these picks to far. One of the original melo death bands that I would have loved to been exposed to in the 90's when they began. I didnt get exposed until 2004 ish when I was given Jester Race on an mp3 disc. I ritually consumed everything until after Clayman and dipped out when I saw "Take this Life" on MTV. I have since grown to love that song but still really do not like any full album until they get to Sense of Purpose. I really wasnt into their mainstream albums live Reroute or Come Clarity. Having said all of that I still love the band and how long they have been around in addition to helping create a genre I love in Melodic Death. I fucking love In Flames
And somehow I ended up back on industrial metal. This time with a Slayer twist on the riffs. This band is a revelation to me as I had not known about them until earlier this year. Much respect to the spaghetti western industrial metal genre. I feel like Gojira almost touched in this Lenfant Sauvage but didnt quite get there
Now let's pull it back with some sabbath vibes because that shit is my true love. Mastodon has become legendary at this point. If you dont think they are we cannot ever be friends. This band is like rush and zepplin made a baby in a satanic orgy with sabbath. I love Mastodon and for the same reason I love Sabbath......the drummer who btw is the lead singer on this song. This band is in the hall of greats as far as I am concerned.
I am not an OG Whitechapel fan. I came across them with the Hickory Creek stuff, I dont like grindcore either but the combination of the Maynard/Tool vocals they started to use grabbed my ears and hasnt let go. Some of these songs are powerful when it comes to a man trying to wrestle with himself.
This is a band I have listened to since their debut album. I have seen them more than any other band live and they will always hold a special place in my heart and take me back to a better time
This last one is another I am a late comer too. I have known about the band for years now but it always felt like the type of band I would have fallen in love with when I was 13 or 14. I would have killed for this music back in 94/95 (yeah I am getting old.whatever I got memories). This is my second favorite Baroness song so far
Goodnight, Good day, be well or be whatever. You do you boo
