I've been doing some pen sketches recently in my spare time as practice and warmups for my regular artwork
I'm finding I'm really enjoying the challenge and how well pen sketch's stretch your artistic muscles. Without being able to erase or properly build up a drawing with a rough sketch your mind has to work extra hard at breaking down the structure of your subject
I highly recommend trying it and I'll be doing some video's talking about my experience with these kinds of sketch's
First one I did was he easiest, very harsh contrast in the lighting of the picture I referenced (photo was of my sister's cow)
Next I went for something with clear shadows but not the super harsh contrast of the first (weirdly I accidentally drew this the last day of Shark Week, instagram went absolutely bonkers over this because of that fact)
Then I upped the challenge by trying to capture someone's likeness. Model I referenced is Thomas Davenport
Then it was the fourth of July and I felt I should doodle something for my American fans (I know, my play by plays are exhilarating)
Then I upped the ante a bit. I had until now straight referenced photo's so now I wanted to start trying to slowly stray away from that. I referenced one of my favorite wrestlers Finn Balor of NXT. Now for those unfamiliar with Finn, he sometimes comes to the ring in his "demon" body paint. So I referenced regular unpainted Finn then added my own version of the demon body paint to him.
Also do yourself a favor and look up some of Finn Balor. The dude is phenomenal. His Demon entrances are a special treat
Anywhoo, I'll post again on here eventually. I got some neat idea's what to do for my next pen sketch's, let me know if you have any suggestions for these
Later!
