Yesterday everyone seemed to sleep all day so I slipped out to wander the streets which is something I love to do whenever I'm visiting somewhere. I took my camera and shot some good pics along the way - something to make me feel normal again.
It's cold here right now, the rain comes and goes and the sky is grey but I love it. The weather fits my mood and that makes me happy. Portland is an interesting place - lots of really beautiful buildings - old and new. The newer architecture seems to fit well with the older buildings that abound downtown. Walking around feels safe and the layout of the city is easy to navigate. Hell, the Alphabet District has all streets named alphabetically so you only need to know the letter you should turn on - forget the rest of the name.
There's also a strong arts culture here - tonnes of really well designed zines, galleries on every other block, 3 or 4 art schools. It makes for a good vibe for anyone who cares about being creative.
Admittedly I woke up late, 12:30ish, wrapped myself up in a bundle of t-shirts (I forgot my coat in Calgary) and headed out for breakfast. I stopped by Fullers downtown and had a huge breakfast with the most perfectly cooked over-medium eggs I have ever had (not overcooked, Uber!). After eats, I wandered through bookstores, grabbed a coffee at a joint that had DJ's spinning, then sat by the river. The clouds moved in so I thought about picking up a coat but ended up having dinner at "Le Happy" - a cool little crepe place near where I'm staying on Everett. A couple of glasses of wine and a crepe or two later it was dark and time to head in. All in all a good day - I met a few people on the walk which is always good times.
Anyways, I go on. It was just good to get out and feel surrounded by life. Quite a happy day
I'll post pics once I get a card reader...

i like the feeling of contentment that comes with wandering somewhere. i like to sit by the river too, but in doing so i'm usually reading or writing, with a tiny dose of cognitive throught going on too. your trip even sounds a bit peaceful.
