booking agencies are a scary thing. today i talked to joel, who just started up a new booking agency. he's interested in us and i think he'd take us on as an official band on his roster. which means, no more booking our own tours, a lot more touring opportunities, package tours with other bands, more money coming our way, guarantees, contracts, riders.
it's kinda scary though.. because it would mean most of our one-off shows would have to be booked through the agency. so if some kid wanted us to play a show in NY... they'd have to go through our agency and probably have to sign a contract, do guarantees, that whole thing. it would mean it might be tougher to just play a small DIY show. we could still do them, but i would fear that some kids would get turned off by the idea. plus, we'd have to play the agency 20% of all the money we make from the door. that's not a lot, but it's still pretty significant.
it's just a scary thing i think. a big step. it could do a lot of good for us.

my boyfriend's label are such assholes...but it's to be expected. a lot of promises of this and that, but nothing. hey, read my journal and answer my question at the end. any personal experience, be it your own or other band mates, would probably help.

I think it's awesome you guys have someone to handle the booking, it's a huge burden lifted from your shoulders I would imagine. I do my bands booking, and it can be the most depressing and frustrating process: cancelations, show swaps that never happen, etc...
