Hello y'all! What's up?
I told you Batman Begins was awesome. I don't know one person that saw it and was disappointed. Not a one!
Well, anyway...I've been jam packing the creativity lately. Working some hardcore hours doing illustration work and animation. Now, I've managed it down to one job and my personal work. Still, it's a ton of work, AND that with my regular job and the fact I am going on a vacation in July....phew. Busy, busy, busy.
I'd rather be busy than not, though.
I'm putting together 2 websites, one for my work, and one for my cartoon series. As soon as I get them up, you all have to check it out and tell me what you think. Then pimp those links to everyone you know!
Also, I have several illustrations I own my friends here on SG, Maxi especially. Also Morgan, Gadget, Denver, and BoyGeorgeIsMyMom. I haven't forgotten about you.
And now, it's time for...

George A. Romero's Land of the Dead
In the 4th installment to George Romero's "Night of the Living Dead" series, the zombies have taken over the earth. This new tale depicts a harrowing vision of a modern-day world where the walking dead roam an uninhabited wasteland and the living try to lead "normal" lives behind the walls of a fortified city. A new society has been built by a handful of enterprising, ruthless opportunists, who live in the towers of a skyscraper, high above the hard-scrabble existence on the streets below. But outside the city walls, an army of the dead is evolving. Inside, anarchy is on the rise. With the very survival of the city at stake, a group of hardened mercenaries is called into action to protect the living from an army of the dead.
With the exception of the "Dawn of the Dead" remake, and "Shaun of the Dead", there really haven't been many good zombie movies lately. And lets face it, more and more are popping up these days (with more yet to come!) Well, I never had any doubt the father figure of the genre would pull through and deliver a great movie. If you dig the other 3 of the series, then Land is definately worth seeing. The storyline continues to evolve, just like the zombies themselves. Yeah, they're dead, they're all messed up. But, now they're learning, people. What started with Bub in Day of the Dead has grown among them all. Riley (Simon Baker) and Charlie (Robert Joy) do a great job. They pull there characters off well, and are convincing. Slack (Asia Argento) looks incredible, as always. She does a good job of acting, too, even if her accent slips in an out occassionally. I am willing to forgive her
Ahem....anyway...the three of them make a solid team, only to be met up with Pillsbury (Pedro Miguel Arce) who I thought was hilarious. And not in a silly slapstick kinda way, but dry/dark humor kinda way. These four fight there way through zombie infested cities to get back the Dead Reckoning, a heavily armored vehicle designed for smashing zombies and retreiving supplies, from Cholo (John Leguizamo). John does an excellent job. I have to say it's been a while since I saw him do anything I enjoyed, but this performance was really good. His character has been doing the dirty work for Kaufman (Dennis Hopper) for years and was seriously ticked off when he wasn't allowed to join the elite in the ritzy skyscraper owned by Kaufman. Dennis is Dennis, what else needs to be said? He has some great scenes, one in particular that made me laugh outloud in the theater because it was so warped. In fact, there are a few funny scenes in the movie, just because of the dark warped humor. And what kinda zombie movie would it be without 2 very important things: Social commentary and a leading African American Hero. This time around, I feel the commentary was definately about social classes, ignoring serious problems, and greed. And I could have sworn I saw a direct comment on our current politcal party and Iraq. Now, you'll say, isn't the hero Riley? Well yes, for the humans. Bring on Big Daddy (Eugene Clark), zombie extraordinaire! As I mentioned before, the zombies are getting it together now, and Big Daddy's to the rescue. There are so many character zombies in this movie, some we see very often throughout the flick. One in particular, Number 9 (Jennifer Baxter) is dressedup in a softball outfit. Is it wrong to think a zombie's hot? Could you imagine the diseases you'd get from that?! SHEESH! I don't want to say too much, even though I probably said too much already! You have to see the movie. Great make-up, excellent gore (even though I really wanted more, I'm such a troll! Those with piercings will appreciate one scene in particular, heh, heh!
), great characters, fantastic effects, dark and creepy (even I, Sliggy the unshakable, jumped a couple times).
