Well, I thank everyone that read my last journal and gave me advice and or support. I feel kinda foolish for writing all of that, but what's done is done. Pretty much, I have decided that she is too much drama and stress, and a lot of wasted positive energy I could be putting towards someone that deserves it much more than her. Oh well, it's her loss.
OK, movin' on!
Next on the chopping block....I inquired about doing illustrations for a children's book; 48 pages, plus cover, full color detailed pages, plus assembling in InDesign, PLUS I would recieve no rights for the work. I bid $25k, which is pretty reasonable considering the amount of work and the fact I would retain no rights at all. He comes back saying That my bid is significantly higher than other artists they are looking at. But, I can rebid if I want. I ask him what the budget on the project is and what the other artists are bidding? He replies, $2,000-3000 for the WHOLE BOOK. Then he mentions how my work is top quality, but they have offers this low from other artists. He even mentions how they are not as good as me, but a couple are impressive.
When you break it down, $3,000 a book, that's $60 a page (including cover), at roughly $7.50 an hour, And that is if I finished apage a day. Less even, if it took longer. That sucks major ass! That's a lot of work, almost three months worth, for shit money.
I told him that the lowest I would go is $15k and that asking for $3,000 is less than most professional Illustrators would accept for that amount of work. I am sure the author got paid more than $3k. What a joke.
Oh Well....Here are some Illustrations I did for fun on The Wizard of Oz.
Enjoy.
