well here we are. back from vacation. darker skin. mosquito bites. happier. more relaxed. a little saner (possibly.. but probably not). missing the kitties. missing our bed.
aruba was awesommmmeeeeeee!
sunday:
the flight wasnt so bad, we got out of the airport to be pounded by 90+ weather. a little bit of a surprise for all of us. we quickly realized, this is why everyone makes plans around being at the beach. you need to get in the water at least 3 times a day just to cool off. the place we stayed was called bucuti. it was a european style hotel. this being the case, yep you guessed it topless beach. i always swim topless so it wasnt a problem for me
we went to subway for lunch. i brought some GF bread in hopes i they would make me a veggie sandwich. YA RIGHT! they looked at me, looked at the bread... nope. so i got a regular sandwich and took the bread off and used my own bread at the hotel. it was alright. not the best way to start off meal-wise but whatever. we went swimming and the water was really nice and clear blue. that night we got some mojitos (which werent as sweet as ones ive had in the US. sort of a nice change, definitely could drink a lot more just cause you dont get the sugar grossout after a while.
monday:
we slept in until 11am. the beds were really nice and comfy. i think due to all the travel we deserved the extra sleep too. we mostly hung out at the beach all day, snorkeled some. saw some nekid euros, you know the normal stuff. we found a gecko that looked exactly like dozer. he kept us company a couple times, sneaking in our room or just hanging out on our doorstep. other things i captured were crabs and various lizards. everyone kept joking that i was steve irwin. we went to sushi and got some sorbet at the ice cream place then went to a casino. i lost 20 bucks or so and teneisha only lost $3.60.. which was the closest to a win, so we called it a win!!!
tuesday:
woke up semi-early and went snorkeling. saw lots of cool fishies, baracudas, coral, more fishies. took a bunch of pictures with the underwater camera. i wish we had another one of those things for other days, 27 pictures go pretty quickly. we got back from snorkeling and had a nice 2 hour nap. had some ice teas on the beach and went to thai for dinner with my sister and dustin.
wednesday:
went to the natural bridge. which we found out collapsed and of course no one told us. there happened to be another one right next to the collapsed one so it wasnt that bad. it was pretty sad to see all the trash and crap that people throw away there. it was a huge floating mass underneath the bridge. it seems silly how the island advertised to have super clean water for drinking. a lot of the hotels are green. recycling, no littering, etc. and then you see things like this huge mass of trash floating underneath a tourist spot and an oil refinery right next to one of the most beautiful spots on the island (rodger's beach and baby beach). guess i wont figure that one out. people probably have similar critiques of the United States. we went to oranjestad for dinner. we searched and searched for anything with vegetarian food and finally found an indian place. i was sort of in the experimenting mood. the thai we had the night before was pretty good. this indian place was delicious. i loveeeeeddd what i ordered. i was pretty surprised, in my head i strongly dislike curry, but turns out i like it afterward. maybe i had a bad reaction when i was little, and assumed it was the curry. im sure we will be looking for indian food places here in san diego, asap. after dinner we went back to the hotel and had drinks by the pool. one of the best damn pina coladas ive ever had
thursday:
woke up super early and went snorkeling with hollers and dustin at arashi beach. it was a little bit north of the place we went on tuesday. definitely cool. the water was a little churned up and the current was stronger so it wasnt as fun as tuesday, but we did see some new fishies and coral. we all went back to the hotel grabbed our cameras and went to the south tip of aruba. we passed a couple small towns. very poor towns. holly asked dustin to stop to get a lens,.... . .. . in the ghetto. . . .. and this crazy raggae guy came after us talking about some bar we needed to go to. teneisha and i took pictures of him thinking we were driving off. i guess that was a no-no. he flipped out and jumped on the back of the car. we were at a dead stop. he kept saying that taking his picture wasnt right. that we should ask. fair enough..so i quickly deleted the picture. i was getting ready to push him off the car/ punch him/ do something. but wasnt sure if we could drive off. i also felt like this guy wasnt about to take on 6 people. so didnt really feel THAT in danger. definitely freaky though. why the hell were we stopping in the ghetto anyways? anyways it made for a good story, no harm done. we kept driving and finally got to rodgers beach and baby beach. both were realllyyy beautiful and nice shallow water. we drove around to the eastside of the island where the water was a lot stronger. we found a pet cemetery. soooo many crosses it was crazy. we never found the lighthouse we set off for. so we turned around and headed back to oranjestad. we walked around and got some things. went back to the hotel to drop off the car. later that night we went to dinner at an art gallery. it was a pretty horrid art gallery at that. there was this one painting.. it was a landscape of the desert, and it had some anime type girl in what looked like mariah carey clothing. hahaha i laughed pretty hard. it was sooo rad. i would have bought it if i thought it was under 100 bucks.. but saw a price tag for one that said 380. ya right! the dinner was pretty horrible. it was supposed to be creole i think, or maybe it was an aruban style.. i dunno.. it tasted like really bad spanish rice, that youd get at a cafeteria. it also tasted like fishy fish.. blarfff.. we went back to the hotel to pack and then went to the casino again. i guess i was semi lucky i won 60 quarters.. then quickly lost it all. hehe i knew i would lose it, that was the fun.
friday:
we finished packing. i went for a nice long walk with my dad. talked about a lot of stuff. maybe going to africa. maybe moving. how he really liked teneisha, how everyone liked teneisha, it was really nice to hear. i knew they would like her but just had that little bit of worry thats always there when people meet for the first time. anyways it was nice that he said what he did. i took a quick swim in the ocean, got all our stuff out of the room and off to the airport we went. the ride home was not fun. it is impossible to eat in airports. IMPOSSIBLE. i wish the government forced airports to have allergy food stores. so people luck teneisha and i could actually eat something. i guess that is all another blog though. hehe
thats it.. summary sort of.. but ya pretty long.. i loved aruba, i loved being there with teneisha and my family. it was great. i feel great. it was just what i needed.
