Yesterday I went to this mall here in my hometown So Paulo which was founded in 1963 and, since the 70s, is known for selling mainly rock n' roll, hard rock, punk and metal music, clothing and accessories. At least it used to be like this until 2004 and so. This place is known by the name "Galeria do Rock", even though it isn't it's real name.
Anyway, my father has told me stories of him going to Galeria do Rock in the 70's, I've known Galeria do Rock since I was a young kid and I always loved that place. It was awesome! Dirty, dark, with lots of awesome albums and leather and metal in the stores.
But with the growth of emo and "happy rock" (which is emo with colorful neon clothes, right?), there's no more leather, there's very few metal stuff and the place which used to be full of punks, metalheads and rockers is now full of ordinary mothers with their children, stores selling hip hop hoodies and, for the love of God, lots of colorful clothes, neon, Super Mario t-shirts and plush toys! C'mon! It's fuckin' Galeria do Rock, man! It was supposed to be THE place to buy rock n' roll!
All I know is I'm pissed off! I know they'll sell what people are buying and, now, it's color... but there should be another place for that and Galeria do Rock should only sell true rock, punk and metal stuff... people come from far cities just to visit the place and, in my opinion, it's fucked up... It was even featured in a damn soap opera!!!
