Thanks y'all! My dad is doing fine now. He's moving around alot better. My mom says that he's gotta be more comfortable than he's been in a very long time, which is cool. With any luck, he'll be coming home tomorrow...
And a quick little update about work....
So when I had my review, I was told that there was a position that had become available that they weren't going to fill right away. The girl who had temporarily covered the position (we always thought she got the position) obviously didn't get the position, as of my review date, Friday.
Keep that in the back of your mind......
After I get to work after being up at 5AM and starring at hospital walls for 3 hours, I got to work. About 2 hours later my general manager introduces me to a new guy that just started. I'm showing him the ropes (I hate training people), and after a while I start talking to him. Find out he worked for a well known local international business and was a network admin there. He's MCSE and A+ certified for computers. Now I'm A+ certified, and I fix any systems that come into work for customers. So I figure this would be good for me to have a guy who knows how to do this for backup if I ever leave or get sick. The thought "replacement" kinda entered my mind, but I quickly brushed it aside.
After talking to him, I was takling to my general manager for a bit. I was teling him how I was impressed he had all these certifications and all his knwoledge. My manager starts talking aobut how the guy used to be a manager for his old company and managed 600 people and he used to be a retail manager and blah, blah.......DING DING DING! All kinds of bells are going off in my head as "replacement" enters repeatedly in my head. The guy is part time and wants full time. My manager said that he wanted to get this guy on board because of his management experience.
Looks like I'll be passed over again like I was last year twice.
Oh....and remember the position that was still open? Yeah, the girl who was covering got the position. I found this out today and ended up finding out that the guy who reviewed me just found out today about it. Um, he's the assistant manager......don't companies usually inform the two most important people in a store about whats going to happen in their store? Don't General Managers inform their other managers about what's going on? HELLLO!!!!! And _I'M_ the one who needs communication skills?
The problem is that back in 99 I worked for both of these guys in the other store, got promoted to a lead position, and I quit after 2 months to work in a factory. I've changed a lot in 5 years. Fuck, I'm not the same person I was LAST year! I was willing to give these guys a chance. Obviously they aren't willing to give me a chance.
My sis says I should put all of this out in the open and voice my opinions to my general manager and the district manager. I've seen what happens when that's done. I did that with the last GM we had and I got shit on.
You know, if I didn't have student loans and credit card bills, I'ld empty out the bank account (not much in there to begin with) and high tail my ass down to North Carolina and graba factory job. They love NY'ers down there because we're so used to busting our asses and getting raped by the state and our employers. Not saying that it doesn't happen elsewhere, but NY has the highest taxes in the country.
All I need to do is win $50,000 in the lottery. I don't even want half a million. Just $50K. That's all I need to start over in a new state without any debt and comfortable living for a couple of months to find a job. Anyone willing to give me $50K?
