The strange sounds coming from the living room awoke David with a start.
Someone's in my apartment! He thought.
Sitting up in bed for a while, he tried to imagine where exactly the sounds were coming from; if they were the result of a man or something else altogether. But there was no tinkering to be heard, no footsteps or other manlike noise. It was a sound of bass but on a very low range volume, just enough to be heard, with a whisper of hiss channeling through it.
This was just too bizarre, he thought, climbing out of bed and pulling on a pair of pants.
Once out of the bedroom, he treads carefully through the hallway, listening carefully, expecting to understand this unfamiliar sound. Although the sound got no louder and its nature still a mystery; he entered the lounge to be greeted by a sight so unimaginably fascinating.
Right on his very own sofa, sat a beast of a being out of this world, surrounded in what seemed like an aura of dark lights, all a shade of red, green and grey. The sight was captivating, intriguing and wondrous to David's eyes, but he remained firm and collected in manner.
This can't be a dream, he thought, I feel so awake! So what the hell is this?
With his face contorted in curiosity, his expression said it all. And that, it seems, was the beast's cue to speak.
"Good evening David."
Its voice was a mild hoarse and strangely calming.
"Do I know you?"
"No you do not, but I know much of you."
"And you are?"
"I am a Devil. I go by the name Goriath. But most refer to me as Gor, if you prefer."
"Well, nice to meet you Gore!"
"The pleasure is all mine David. I know you must be feeling a little apprehensive about our unusual encounter. Your pretend laid-back sarcastic manner is proof of that."
"Is that right. And you figured that out all on your own?"
"Yes David; and I know quite a bit about you already."
"Like what?"
Gor sighed deeply, resulting in his nostrils to expel a smoky musk that shadowed his entire aura.
"I shan't waste time with you on subjects and things you already know of yourself. My image to you should be enough for you to believe that I am a reality."
"Well, I guess. So what do you want with me then?"
"I would like you to accomplish a certain task for me David"
"A task? You mean, like a deed?"
"If that is the word you prefer, then yes."
"Will I gain something out of this?"
"Of course you will David; unlike Angels of all that is good or whatever it is you wish to call them, your species has come to believe that when you make a deal with a Devil, you have much to gain. And that part of belief, I can assure you, is true"
"So you could make me rich?"
"If that should be your final requested wish through completing your task with me, then wealth shall be your destiny."
"Hmm so how does this work then? Am I required to do your bidding first, and then you make me rich? Or do I get rich first and then make you happy?"
"Task first, profit later."
"Well, I disagree. If I'm going to be making any deal with a Devil then its only common sense that you satisfy my end of the deal first. After all, if I was to screw up your end of the deal, then surely you have the power to take away everything you've given to me, right?"
"I must admire that you're not easily swayed to be put in an unknown circumstance. Unlike quite a few mortal freaks out there that would be more than willing to do my bidding for almost nothing in return. But I have specifically chosen you David, and for that, I shall make an exception to the rule."
"Well, great! But before you get your hopes up, I really need to know what you want of me. Because I'll let you know right now that I don't do any nasty stuff."
"Then you will be pleased to know that 'nasty' is not what I require of you. It is nothing more than a simple execution; of a 30-something male."
"And this is supposed to be simple? Is this man someone important? Someone famous?"
"Not at all. Hence the 'simple execution'."
"It might sound simple in theory, the murder of some random guy, but in reality, murder is never a simple matter. They can catch anyone these days"
"I assure you that the execution of this one man will bring you no complications with the laws of your world."
"So who is he, some scumbag that just won't be missed?"
"He will not be missed is true enough, for he is not of your world"
"You want me to kill an alien?!"
"The man in question is a Devil, like myself, but unlike me, he is currently living an immortal life within your world."
"You want me to kill one of your own? My task is to kill another Devil for you? I think that's more bizarre than actually finding you sitting on my sofa like this"
"This Devil goes by the name of Nektor"
"And do they refer to him as Neck for short?" David cut in.
"No, no they do not." Gor gave him an impatient stare and carried on, his tone raised to a much more serious level, "He is an old adversary of mine. He has something that belongs to me. And I want it back! But here lies my obstacle, for he has since abandoned the realms of our world and entered yours, in flesh and blood, as an immortal soul among you and your species. I have no means of attaining him alone in this world. I need the assistance of another mortal to execute him accordingly and permanently, according to my guidance. Only then will his soul travel back to 'our' realm, to which I have a special welcoming fate to cocker him with"
"Sounds pretty personal. And quite interesting. I mean, how the hell I do kill an 'immortal'? And why me? What made you choose me over murdering bastards, soldiers, bounty hunters and other folk skilled in the art of wiping someone out?"
"That is a matter I cannot disclose with you at this time. But you must realize, this is an opportunity that many of your kind would die for"
David stood pondering in silence, accumulating everything he'd heard since meeting his strange paranormal guest.
"Any wish you desire David, and it shall be yours." Gor added.
"So you're saying your powers can't touch your Devil friend in my world?"
"My powers are limited here. My elemental powers in your world are to corrupt and influence."
"And grant wishes, apparently."
"Yes, granting a mortal's desire as a result of an apportion is also within my power"
Gor studied David skeptically.
"So what is it you desire David? You may begin to enjoy a new life as early as dusk the next day."
"You know, I've always said to myself that I should take more risks in life, make life a little more interesting, exciting and unpredictable. I'll do it!"
"You have taken the right path, David. You shall be the envy of all around you. Wealth is what you desire, yes?"
"No"
"No?" Gor was slightly taken aback.
"No, I was just using that as an example of a wish. Money won't make me happy. And a wish from a Devil doesn't come every day. There's only one thing in life that I know will make me happy, forever happy"
"And in what guise does this 'forever happiness' come under?"
"Well, is this the part where I make my wish? Because I want to make sure I get it right. I've heard enough fables, true or not, of 'mortals' getting tricked by the Devil."
"I have no intention of any such tricks of which you speak of, David. Tell me your desires in full and you shall have."
"I want a woman"
"I see"
"I'm not finished! I want a woman that I will fall in love with and who will love me back equally. A soul mate and a partner for many years to come. I want us to be head over heels in love with each other, to share the same sexual drive, and be together until the day we die, in a peaceful death. I want you to find me that one girl that I'm meant to be with, the love of my life."
"You are asking of me to help you find love?"
"What do you mean help me; you're supposed to grant me that as a wish! And I'm not asking you, its part of our deal! Did I misunderstand something? Is my wish unattainable?
"No, no, not at all, David. Your desire is as attainable as any other."
"Oh good, because that's all I've really ever wanted."
"Consider your wish granted. I shall visit you again in a similar manner, which by then you will be celebrating your happiest dreams come true, and I shall come to ask for my share of the bargain. Sleep well, David. Your life is just beginning"
"I sure hope so. I'll be looking forward to it"
Gor was already disappearing in a mist of dark colors, his features gone altogether, his shape a shadowy presence; and then nothing. No Gor, no sound. Just an empty sofa and a slight lingering musk in the air.
"I can't believe I'm going to have the love of my life literally just come knocking at my door!", and with that thought, David went to bed, almost unable to fall back asleep with the events of the evening and the prospect of what lay ahead for him.
But little did he know that the Devil does not specialize in the love department

Oh, Melinda and Melinda? Haven't seen it, but I've never been a fan of Woody Allen so don't think I'll bother. Will Ferrell has made some really bad career choices, but I love him nonetheless!
