What would you choose?..
Well homeboys, time for a new update.
We'll keep this one short because 1) I'm such a busy/important person I don't have time to waste on the likes of SG

And 2) because I don't feel like typing right now.
So just recently my mom well, my brother wrecked my moms car. (Ha ha, and he complains about how I drive
never been in a wreck btw, and he's only been driving for a couple of months now!)
And the stupid insurance company (As must be expected from an insurance company) decided it doesn't want to give her enough money to actually buy a new car (No I don't mean NEW I meant a replacement vehicle) so she's just supposed to be out of her main source of transportation with a check for roughly half the price of a crappy used car...
Yeah, you can tell I just love insurance companies can't you?
Luckily though, A) my mom is smart, B) The car wasn't actually totaled, And C) After years of working in medicine, she's finally obtained a dually respectful and lucrative position at a local clinic, and her "boss" is actually paying her what she's worth. So money isn't the nail biting concern it used to be, more of a set of financial restraints on Christmas funds and where she can spend her holidays.
I can't tell you how glad I am that she's finally getting out of that money crisisIt's like a miracle.
But anyway, my mom decided to get the van fixed as opposed to trashing it, however, she won't be using it anymore. She's buying a new car (or newer) for some reason and so she plans on giving the old van to one of us. I already have a car. My younger brother (who we shall refer to as "Ralph") doesn't have a car so she was planning on giving it to him(He was the one who wrecked it so it would make sense that he would get it huh? Ha ha ha) But that's when she said: "hey, maybe slacker(myself) would like to give Ralph his old car and take the newer van instead?"
Personally I don't know why she's giving me a choice in the matter but I'm definitely grateful for it. And now my friends we come to the real meat and potatoes of the matter.
A choice must be made! Do I want the van or not? If I take the van then Ralph takes my corolla, fair trade, seems simple enough right? But I still can't decide and I want you guy's opinion on the matter, lets make a list of pros and cons shall we?
Ok here's the pros for the van:
Looking at it through Vulcan eyes it seems the choice is obvious, go with the van. It's got more storage capacity for friends, foodstuffs and other random merriment, and it also has significantly less mileage on it so I don't have to worry about it breaking down on me.
Cons:
On the other hand though, it's big and bulky, hard to maneuver in and out of tight parking spaces, and doesn't exactly give me the 'freeing' sense I get from driving my car. Driving a minivan doesn't scream young and full of life, wily, or spontaneous, and it just seems to sap the coolness right outta you. I very much doubt I would be getting my mack on in that vehicle(don't get me wrong it's a nice car but it just screams soccer mom doesn't it?) And finally I believe its takes abit more actually to fill up the gas tank on the minivan than my corollaalso I'd have to replace and update the mp3 adapter in the car to a cd format. (I know this isn't much of a point but still.)
Now for the Corolla
Pros: I like my car. It's really as simple as that. It's old, basic and not expressive or trendy in anyway reallynone of those are traits I typically value. It's even painted an ugly color, but I've grown attached to it. I mean I keep bitching about how small the damn thing is and how bad it is for cargo but I've really developed that Millennial Falcon attachment to itI feel kinda like, yeah it's a shitty, bland, everyday looking car, but its my car, and its never given me any trouble. (One of the only pieces of property I own btw) To a certain extent I feel like my identity is in that car. (Once again not outwardly of course, its damn ugly and boring looking. No, more like my scentha ha ha) And its not that I wouldn't like the idea of upgrading it or getting a new car, but if I'm to replace it, then shouldn't that new car be cooler? More expressive of me than my old car? Not more old fartish and "He's raising a family" or "doing the weekly shopping." My car, stupid as it is, does do a little to make me feel like I might actually live the fun life I want and the van just feels like I'm skipping over the fun part and going straight to the business adult phase.
Cons:
More mileage and looming maintenance costs and concerns, smaller vehicle, not much passenger seating or storage capacity. The funny thing is the minivan is actually kinda prettier than my car.heh heh heh. Its and older vehicle 1997 I believe, the van is like a 2003 or newer maybe even a 2005 and its only got like 48-50000 miles. My car has nearly 100,000. I can't think of anything else.
Well there you have it. I shouldn't be as torn on this issue as I am but I am just really back and forth on this. I'm thinking you know, socially the van would allow me to car pool more peoplebut it makes me feel like an old pa-toot! And so far I haven't really been in need of a much larger storage capacity as far as friends go. I mean my car has generally met my every demand. (With the exception of hauling home a Christmas tree.*hilarity ensues*)
So SG populace, what say you? What would you choose? The dingy corolla or the Soccer mom minivan?
P.S. as you can see I clearly lied about my declaration of keeping this entry short.
P.P.S.: On a completely separate and unrelated topic, I was talking to my roommate tonight about police misconduct and it just got me fired up. Apparently the things that have happened to me have never happened to him. He's never been involuntarily searched, or screamed at by the police or threatened, or put in the back seat of a cruiser. Or ID'd and nearly finger printed for walking down the street and then accused of committing homicide
I want to start a blog/Conversation about being man handled by the police! I want to start like a police brutality and inappropriate behaviors thread tracking the number, and amount of times people on SG can recall getting harassed by the police over petty things. Or wrongly accused of things they didn't do. Things like on the SG DVD where the girls are skinny dipping at that hotel poolNow I was not there so I don't know exactly what happened, I don't know for sure and cannot say for sure whether or not the girls were provoking the harassment and threats they received or not. But what I can say is that I've been in that situation more times then I care to remember, and that just about every time I get harassed it's by overly sensitive, overly concerned, uptight people who don't know how to mind their own damn business. I'm never rude or aggressive to those people why do they always feel the need to treat me with disrespect?
Of course in situations where someone is basically made uncomfortable by (Your/Our) parties actions and comes over to complain about it, the people on our end need to execute a somewhat welcoming reception to whatever concern the outside party may have about our activities. And we should certainly display a degree of understanding and compliance, though I do not believe we are obligated to kiss anyone's ass or apologize for our behavior. And I also feel that this understanding and courtesy needs to extend to both parties, or else it will not exist at all. These people who always love to pretend to be victimized never seem to understand that simple fact. They always just come at you with their pent up rage and hostility.
I'll post a new blog or conversation dedicated to just my "Run-ins" with the police and awkward taddle-tale moments very soon, but for now, its sleepy time. (or arrested development time, which ever comes first!
)
Now its time for the obligatory video:
How relevant and cool is this?
