so after being in NYC for the third time, im beginning to realize the downfalls of living in LA. dont get me wrong, i know i have it a lot better than people living in the midwest or something, but it was definitely a bummer to come home to the city of angels. people have this misconception of bitchy, rude new yorkers when really i feel like people treated us better there than the snobby, fake LA inhabitants. more than a couple times we were asked by strangers on either the subway or the street if we needed help finding something. people were actually really helpful and nice to us and didnt treat us like annoying tourists. even the people at bars were awesome. we met a GREAT group from NJ and had such a blast hanging out with them while we were there. the bartender at beauty bar also bought me and lisa a drink (and it was a girl, not some dude trying to get us wasted).
everywhere you turn in NYC there is something cool to take a picture of...something historical, something wierd, something awesome. i love just wandering around and seeing what i can see. the parks there are awesome too, we dont have anything even remotely similar to central park here. and they are everywhere! i could just lay in the park and read a book, but thats fairly unrealistic here. even when i was going back to NYC from NJ there was a ton of cool stuff i saw from the bus. a big cemetery, the NY skyline across the river, random statues.
aside from all of that there is the fact that the bars are open till 4am and you can go to about 4 rad bars all on the same street. if you get bored of one place, you can just go somewhere else and not have to deal w/ taking another cab or something. the bars are all unique and a lot of them are themed...so fun!! oh, and dont even get me started on how awesome it is being able to take the subway everywhere. yes, the wait kinda sucks at night, and its warm down there, but its still worth it.
it just seems like there is so much more going on there. it turns out there isn't much of a contest between LA and NYC, and going there this time kind of ruined LA for me. i would be totally content with living back east half the year...or even more. im just skeptical about the brutal winter, i know how i freeze if it gets below 45 degrees. haha. i had more fun in the 4 days i was in NYC than i have in a long time in LA. my love for bruce springsteen has also been rekindled. definitely an added bonus.
