Ugh, time for me to replace that last whiny blog.
Sorry for the bitching, those of you that read this.
LIfe is good. I go back to Eugene soon, back to school. I was really really excited about a month ago, but I've been enjoying Portland so much this past few weeks that the idea of leaving (again) is getting harder. This is actually my last weekend in town, and it's music fest northwest/Belmont street fair/Bike weekend. Perfect. The only problem is that I've been sleeping in until 1 recently, because of the concerts, and I'm not finding a whole lot of time to pack, sell my drum set, or anything like that.
Anyone wanna buy a drumset?
I'm half deaf right now because of Dan Deacon last night. Without a doubt the best show I've ever been to. I tried to avoid dramatizing clubs and shows, but this was undeniably primal. Instead of playing his set from the stage, Deacon set up his iPod and mixing table on the floor infront of the stage, and we surrounded him. The lights shining up on the kids on the stage gave it this incredible, surrealistic feeling. It looked like a scene from a movie or music video, even the way we were dressed and the expressions...it's hard to explain. We weren't really dancing either. It was more like thrashing and grinding. It was incredibly communal, and no one seemed to care who they were being pushed up against. Some girl came up behind me and grabbed me, so I danced with her for a few songs, without saying anything.
I love being young. This is what I needed after a month of just roleplaying with the nerd herd and playing video-games. This was a pure celebration of youth, mind and body.
I wonder what shows I'm going to tonight.
