I like being a CFI part time just hate the rich kids who's dads are paying their way.
Flying is expensive -- always has been and always will be. So of course we all want to save money in whatever way we can so we can buy things like gas to get to the airport, and clothes to wear while flying.
Some people are upset when they receive an invoice from me that is for more time then they actually flew. "Wait -- We flew 2.1 hours but you charged me for 3.5 instruction time!?!?"
Keep in mind I spent time with you on the ground discussing the upcoming flight and probably time on the ground reviewing the afterwards. Usually there is more ground time early in training, or after a long break. If you're flying more often you will probably have a cursory pre- and post-flight review.
As far as I can see, it's cheaper to pay for flight instruction on the ground, since there's no fuel being burned and no airplane costs being tallied.
But if you insist on paying for only time spent in the airplane, let me know and we'll go start it up and taxi around a while while we have our pre and post-flight discussions.
