I've had a pretty good week. It could have been better, certainly, I could have really done without a couple of people who are for whatever reason seemingly determined to try to upset me on a semi-daily basis. I dunno what that's all about. Sunday night I stayed up and helped Jessica with her finals essay, which was actually kind of fun in the sense that it was somewhat challenging to write, and I was glad for a chance to help her out. I hope it gets good marks, because I think she deserves to do well, and we both worked hard on it.
Monday and Tuesday went by in a blink, I don't even really remember anything about those days. Wednesday I had that job interview in the afternoon, and that went pretty well I think. It's an odd situation, because it's a new position that they're not even sure if they're going to need or not, so it's kind of screwy, but I did my best at the interview and the head of HR seemed to respond to me well, and gave me her personal number and asked me to keep in touch and see how things look as far as the position goes, which I think is a good sign.
Jared and a couple of other people I haven't heard from in a long while called me while I was in the interview, and I think it's funny the only calls I received so far that day were during the one time I couldn't answer my phone. Called him back after, and things seem to be going fairly okay for them right now. Bridget is pregnant again, which is not really at all surprising. It's cool though, I know they want at least a few more kids, and it's important to Jared that his kids be near the same age so they can grow up together like he did with Derek. I agree with him on that, really. My best friends and playmates when I was growing up were always my brothers, too. I think it's a great thing, and they're happy about it, and I think back to a time shortly after they were married when they were secretly worried that they might not be able to have children together. I'm glad things seem to have worked out though. It's odd to think of one of my best friends as a father, especially after all of the stupid stuff we've done over the years, and I think about it and wonder how Jared could make the transition from being part of our dorky circle that in a major way is all about not growing up and being somewhat irresponsible. But see him with Lilian and somehow it fits, and I realize that a huge part of him has always been about family. Now that his brother Derek is also married, it will be interesting to see what happens there. He's a bit more level-headed so I could see them holding off for a while, but really it could go either way.
Anyways, back to Wednesday. So after I spoke to Jared for a little over half an hour, my friend Heather called, which was really surprising cause she rarely calls me first. So I went over to her place and we hung out a bit and mostly just watched tv until it was time for me to go and see my brother Marcus, who had flown in to PDX. He's going to be in town for the next two weeks or so on leave, then he has to head back to Iraq. So pretty much since that night a lot of my time has been spent hanging out with him, talking it up like in the old days. I swear we could both be gone for 20 years and never speak, and the moment we got back together it would be like no time at all had passed. Our personalities are very very different, but it seems like they complement each other pretty well, and we share a lot of common interests, so somehow it works out. The family is all heading down to San Fransisco, which might be cool, but I've decided not to join them, as I'll end up the odd man out anyways and I have never had a very good time in that city.
So that pretty much covers my week. Saturday we all got together and had breakfast, with Meg eventually coming down to join us, though that didn't go very well, I thought. Long wait, inattentive service, and everyone else's food was cold by the time they got it, though mine was fine, oddly enough. I never did get my coffee refilled though, and that's a major bad mark, far as I'm concerned. So boo to them.
Monday should be pretty cool. There's a pretty good sized gathering going on, and Marc and I have decided to go and say hey to everybody. I'm not sure all who will be there, the only ones I know for sure being Ramen, and probably Joe and Kev, plus the old group from Merl's. So that should be cool, and I think later a bunch of us are going to go out to a club maybe, throw back some drinks and reminisce about all the stupid stuff we used to do when we were younger. Wow, I just thought about it and realized that I've known the guys from the old group like Ramen, Jared, and Derek for almost 7 years. That is crazy... Where did the time go?
