I am very proud of myself.
Today I ran the anesthesia machine for the first time by myself. Usually someone runs it and i watch over their shoulder and learn more about it, but not today I am super proud. It was for a doggie neuter. and I also administered the microchip into the dog's back with this huge horse needle lol. Its heart wrenching work because when their heart rate goes down mine goes up (as Amy would say) and I had to whip out the Atropine today because the dog's heart rate when down to 80 and we want it above 100.
But all in all I did a very good job and the doggy is awake and groggy and frantically looking for his testicles. lol poor dear.
I love that i'm getting more hands on and that i'm BRAVE enough to do more of the gross work. like shots, drawing blood, adminstering medicine and the like.
Just in case you guys dont know what my job looks like i found some pictures to help elaborate my story
anesthesia machine:
ours looks a bit different but you get the jist
if you can tell, the needle for microchipping is pretty damn big. no worries! they're usually under or have the area completely numbed
and then we check to make sure its registered in there
I would honestly take more pics at work except its hard to cause i have to keep my eyes and mind on whats going on. maybe when something isnt so hectic i'll snap more pics on my shitty phone.
and that was my humbling moment of the day. knowing the life was REALLY in my hands and i'm happy I kept my cool and was quick about everything when the urgency for the Atropine arised
oh and if you're curious as to why i'm in such a flippin happy mood
say hello to my new girlfriend we're in a completely open relationship so i'm still my loveable free self. but she's hot and i dig her
