we had to euthanize a small 3 month old 2 pound kitten this evening. the owner and her mother came in bawling and sobbing and holding this tiny sick little innocent kitten, they couldnt stand to be in the room for when we humanely put her down. i volunteered cause i had gotten close with the kitten the few times she was in here. her name was Rae. the story goes they got her from a pet store (vomits) in lincoln square in chicago. the kitten had Feleuk. which is fatal in kittens and young cats. if a cat catches FIV but they're older they can survive. example we have a cat living at the vet who's FIV positive. but he's 15 years old.
anyways we reported the pet store. they dont care where they get their animals and 9 times out of 10 the animals are from awful breeders and come into the store with upper resp or in this case FIV. another example me and Daniel Hauff from Mercy For Animals are trying to shut down The Fish Bowl in Evanston. i've gone in there many times and seen kittens with mucousy eyes and couging puppies. kennel cough is a terrible thing ladies and gents!
this kitten was skin and bones and her tiny belly was soooo swollen with fluids, she was so sickly. so we had to put her down. so please ladies and germs DO NOT buy animals from breeders and pet stores! if you want a pure bred animal there ARE shelters specifically for pure bred doggies and kitties. just google it.
i'm sick and tired of seeing cats and dogs coming into the hospital nearly dying because stupid people at stupid pet stores think their fucking vets and dont take care of the animals. please do your research. i mean i'm SURE there's like ONE good pet store out there but i highly DOUBT IT.
