i just want to post a snipet of a conversation i had today to say what i think about father's day (names withheld - and grammar modified - to protect the innocent):
-it's weird to me sometimes how a societally imposed "day of recognition" can have such varying impacts on people when it's something that's only real because everyone agrees on it
-i agree on that
-everybody out there is so busy doing these fathers day things
-not everybody
-i'm not doing anything related to it today
-except going to visit my kids
-but that i'm doing because i want to (and maybe a bit because my ex will feed me if i do lol)
-not because i expect anything from them
-i mean, the huge hugs i get every time i see them are more recognition for me than a bunch of (or even a few) cards
-or someone else patting me on the back because the calendar mandates it
-hehehe i never did special things for my dad
-however
-when i was in school i think in like 3rd grade i made this shirt, that said happy fathers day in huge writing in the back and lots of splash of painting here and there
-that man wore that shirt until my mom trashed it cause it had holes and what not
-i felt soooo happy everytime i saw him wearing it, and he would love to wear it
-that's cool
-it reminded him of you
-i tattooed the drawings my kids did for me for a similar reason
i guess my point is, if someone really means something to you, you don't need an excuse to recognize them. and i don't say that in a mean way at all. i'm not ungrateful for the people who have at least thought about me enough to say it - that means something in it's own way too. i'm just sayin', recognize the special people in your life often and because they're special, not because Hallmark says so.
