thanks for everyone's input on the previous post. i appreciate your thoughtful replies. i've decided to go ahead with it after all. i figure worst case scenario, my kids will ask me to NOT show it to their friends in 10 years... but otherwise, i'll have something pretty cool to show them. and it's not like the publishers are making any MORE money than they otherwise would on account of that particular picture, so on that front i gain more than they do - a free copy of their book. life's too short to pass up something that nice because of a tiny bit of vanity on my part.
been re-reading Watchmen again and a couple quotes have really stuck out and resonated with me this time around. the first one has pretty much solidified my decision to get a Rorschach tattoo, with a quote from his "journal" underneath the image:
beneath me, this awful city, it screams like an abattoir full of retarded children
the second one is a Dr. Manhattan quote. i was already planning an arm-piece of that character and, given the other plans that surround it, it's unlikely the quote will accompany it. but it might just end up elsewhere on me at a later point. this one's a bit more... uplifting... than the previous one:
we gaze constantly at the world and it grows dull in our perceptions. yet seen from another's vantage point, as if new, it may still take the breath away
