guess it's about time for an update here...
so little time...
this will seem from out of nowhere since i've never mentioned it on here before... but... jada found out today that she has to wait six months for a referral to a shrink. she's been seeing a counsellor, one of several and the first one who seemed to actually "get" her, who thinks that she was mis-diagnosed with ADD and is actually type-2 bi-polar. "certainly would explain a lot" was my reaction when she told me this. anyway, the counsellor wrote her a referral to the shrink for a "formal" diagnosis and treatment and now she gets to wait six months. when she found that out, she said to the shrink's receptionist "I bet you must have people dropping off of that list a lot" - the implication being fairly obvious - and the reception just casually replied "unfortunately yes, that does tend to happen quite frequently" ... grrrrreeeeaaaat. so jada says to me "maybe i'll get lucky and a few of the people ahead of me will off themselves so i can get in sooner"... a pretty sad state of affairs. one of the joys of publicly funded health care i guess...
in other news the kids are fun as usual... had a frustrating week with vivian last week, she was waking up a lot (scared of the dark phase) and starting to really throw a lot of tantrums... so we gave her one of those circular lights that you push to turn on to take to bed with her; and made a new rule of no TV for the three hours before bed, we only listen to music during those hours now... in retrospect i wish we'd done that a lot sooner... even though it's kind of annoying to never be able to watch the news, it's made for a total change in her disposition. she's been a lot calmer over the weekend and today. being constrained to kids shows and game shows has left us away from the tv more during the day as well, all well and good as far as i'm concerned. just try to stick mostly to stuff with educational value on the tube from now on.
not much to report on rosalyn except that she's starting to stand on her own without support now... and starting to associate "dada" and "mama" with us to the point that she'll actually ask for us. it was cute too the other day she was in bed before I woke up for work (i work graveyards) and she woke up and started crying when she heard me come down. jada went in and couldn't get her to calm down, then i went in and she clammed right up... and we realized she wanted to see me! awww...
that band i mentioned last entry has started to come together a bit... i was worried at first because everyone involved seemed to have a different idea of where to go with it... basically it's me and a drummer, with a theoretical vocalist who lives in a different province and will contribute if he likes what we put together musically. the drummer doesn't have and can't afford gear right now, so it's more or less all on me with some of his input. so the idea is that we'll put minimal/atmospheric beats together on the machinedrum, later i'll throw in more blips and bleeps from the nord modular and then come up with ambient and/or chorded guitar material to go over that... then when the drummer gets his gear, he'll add in parts to compliment what we get going on the machinedrum. at first the drummer was talking about getting another guitarist and a bassist etc... and i was just like "no, dude, the less people the less egos, we can do this shit ourselves"... he was worried about the lackof bottom end to the sound if we didn't at least get a bassist and i just said "we'll get all the bottom end we need on the electronic side of it, trust me"... so i took the machinedrum to his place last week to show him what it can do and he was impressed... one of the first things he said was "you're right, we WON'T need a bassist if we have that thing"
so it looks like there might not be as much of a stylistic clash as i anticipated... mind you, it could be another story entirely once the vocalist gets involed, but that will come later
anyway, cheers to you if you read this much of my boredom.
