Bad!
I knew that my Very Special LadyFriend's mother was going to come to New York late last night, and I knew that I was supposed to book her a room at the cheapo hotel around the corner. But I totally forgot all about it until the evening. So when I called, of course, the hotel was full. Asked for suggestions about other hotels: "Uh, no. Everywhere's full for the weekend." Therefore VSLF's mother would be staying on our couch this weekend. VSLF was less than pleased. I can be such an idiot. However! We did find one, and it's not expensive, and it's supposed to be pretty good! Crisis averted. VSLF doesn't hate me anymore, and I hate myself a little less.
Good!
I finally got a temping position, with not bad pay. About damn time, right? I don't know what we do, but I think it's in the field of "direct marketing", which is a little... ew. My boss, who has an adorably improbable name, has, I've been told, a "strong personality". So, we'll see how much fun that is. It's good to be around people during the day again. Excepting a grueling three-hour dictation, work has been pretty light and I've been encouraged to use the internet when not busy, so wa-hey!
Some friends from London are visiting New York, so we've been spending some time with them. Last night we went to a real old-school steak house in the theater district. The hall into the restaurant has a huge window facing their meat locker. So much meat. Not so much in the way of vegetables, and all of it steamed. Omnivorous bastards.
Last night the four of us went to see Mike Doughty play at the Bowery Ballroom. He's super.
VSLF's mother brought us all kinds of tasty food, as always. And a fairly awesome piata.

And a job where it is OK to google. That is damn cool.
Ever been to Sunnys in Red Hook?, great old fashioned neighboorhood bar, the best. Not that I can get there from the UWS too often, but nevertheless.
