I've been spending an awful lot of time with AlexKarina lately. We had dinner on Tuesday, he flaunted his underworld connections for me on Wednesday, and VSLF and I saw Cat Power on Thursday.
Yeah, so Cat Power gave a free show at Castle Clinton in Battery Park. You ever play Deus Ex? One of the missions is at Castle Clinton; so it's a bit of a trip. Anyway, it's a striking venue: a donut shaped structure (definitely not a castle) built in the 19th century; the concert was right in the hole. Right under big tall skyscrapers.
But the show itself. Cat Power... when she sang, she was very very good. But she was easily distracted. She stopped in the middle of a song to make kissing noises at a squirrel that had appeared on the roof behind her. She asked audience members for food, and then tried to offer it a cookie. An overheard quip: "Remember when Cat Power got rabies?" The whole show was like this. But many pretty audience members.
We saw Pirates of the Carribean last night. Who'd've thought that a movie based on a theme park ride would be anything other than a piece of poo? But it as good writing, good directing, and from Mr.s Depp and Rush, of course, great acting. I'd go so far as to say I really like Gore Verbinski... if he weren't responsible for those damn frogs.
Check this out, if you haven't already.
