I watched Finding Nemo last weekend.

What's the deal with Pixar making everything so fucking cute? I would've enjoyed it more if the animals actually looked like the animals they were supposed to be. Look at their eyes! They're so damn googly & human! They should let the writing and the acting make the character, not all this mugging.

Look at Luxo Jr., Pixar's first movie. Now that lamp had so much character. But all of its parts were rigid, and it had no face to speak of. They should all sit down and watch it again.

Plus, all Pixar movies have certain things in common. Matching first & last scenes. A main character who is unsure of himself, but who is confident by the end. Wisecracking sidekicks. These are all good things, but they really need to broaden their horizons.

I forgive all these things in the Toy Storys and Monsters Inc. But what Nemo was missing was sympathetic characters. I just didn't bond with them, you know?

Still: an enjoyable film.

I can't believe nobody answered my "What's a buck these days?" with "Haven't you heard about 10-10-220?" Come on, I totally set you up.

Edit: Omg! I forgot to mention! My magnets came yesterday! They are wonderful!

Totally agree w/ you about Pixar. I haven't seen, and probably won't see Nemo b/c its look is more saccharine than I can stand. I really liked the Toy Story films and Monsters Inc.--and of course Luxo Jr.. I have to suspect it's Disney's influence that keeps the stories so formulaic while forcing the aesthetic to be increasingly baby-toyish.

Whatever could you mean by "hulkesque"? It's clear I'm wearing no purple shorts, so do explain. Oh, never mind. It's probably the guitar...

Re: Hulk. My pic is indeed green. My lame attempt at dry sarcasm mixed with absurdity fell flat.
