I know I've been ridiculously MIA lately. I had to write this down, but it can't be where my relatives can see it until I can talk to them and be sure it's nothing to worry about- don't need to be breaking anyone's heart until there's actual need for concern- but I just had the most heartbreaking and vibrant dream and I have to write it down while it's fresh.
My sister and I were both somehow 10 years younger and the age we are now, sitting on the old slanted shutter doors that led to the basement on the back end of the house we grew up in but haven't lived in for years, and looking into the backyard up against the fense between our lawn and the neighbors behind us, the ghost of my (not yet dead) grandfather on my mom's side was leaning. He was simultaneously old like he is now, and young like he was in the photo that I got tattooed on me, kind of like a hologram that kept shifting.
We called to my mom who was inside the house to let her know we saw grandpa, but by the time she got to us he had faded and we just kept asking her "can you see him? can you see him?" and then I woke up to my pillow soaked in tears.
Late last month I made the drive to my aunt's house where my grandpa is staying, and my mom had asked me to give her a report on how he's doing. He's turned 90, had multiple heart attacks, assorted injuries from falls, his mind is mostly clear though, but she just wanted to know if it's time to call all of her siblings in from the rest of the country to see him just in case. At the time he seemed ok though. But I just sent her a message that it's time to make the 5 hour drive to see him for herself, just to be safe. I hope it's just a dream, but I don't want it to be too late and wind up with her not getting to see him like in the dream.
