An update. First off- I hope everyone had a good thanksgiving.
Mine was... uneventful. My folks drove up for a late breakfast with me and my sister, but had to leave shortly after arriving as they live 4 hours away. I was supposed to have some movie plans with a friend, but she works a lot and pulled out last minute to have a decompression day, so it was just me and my housemate's pets watching stuff on netflix for a bit while the housemate was out of town visiting family.
It was kind of a downer to be alone for the brunt of the holiday, but after years of being away on deployments, and then spending most of the last year in Arizona away from home and the people here, it wasn't a big deal. Caught up with an old friend/love/etc online. We have a weird relationship full of awkwardness and regret, but we're also very close and trying to figure out how to be friends. That's a whole different and excessively long story that will have to wait for another time though I'm afraid.
Anyway, I've been settling in ok. Seen some of the old familiar faces. Karaoked with that whole crowd, who after a year away are still right in the same spots- some of them still sitting on the same bar stools as when I left them. The wrestling company I used to work for is still, as always, dealing with internal strife and nonsense, and of course they want me back... I miss the business, but we'll see what I commit to. I haven't been able to get my bed and such out of storage yet, so I've been sleeping either on the floor, or on a recliner, but it could always be worse- I could be homeless again. I'm grateful to my friend Julie for taking me in after my original housing plans fell through and the VA continues to stiff me on what I'm owed from them. Funds are short at the moment, which is rough, but I'll make due. I always do.
In better news- I weighed in at 189lbs this morning. That's only 4 pounds away from my target weight. Of course, I still have a lot of toning and such to do- but losing about 30 lbs so far this year has been great, both for my self-image, and for my joints. At roughly 5'11" it's not like I was brutally fat or anything, but I've definitely been out of shape, and with a history of injuries from my time in the military, the easier I can make things on my body by decreasing the load my joints have to carry, the better.
Also- I scored tickets for The Coup concert next friday in the city. That should be awesome. Very danceable social/political hip hop. Highly recommended group, and their latest album is absolutely killer.
Other than that, not much else to report. *shrug*
It's good to be home, now just trying to get on to the next thing...
