Hello, new followers! So here is another collection of music that I've been listening to lately and want to share with all of you...well, for those who really care, haha. My taste is pretty all over the place in general, usually I go through phases with certain bands and similar artists but lately I'm jumping all over the place! So here is a super small collection of tunes I've been really diggin' lately..... <3
1. NEEDLES//PINS (bandcamp link)
These lovelies hail from Vancouver and the music they create just makes me swoooooooon. 70's punk vibes, catchy singalongs, poppy riffs....HOW COULD YOU NOT BE SWOONING RIGHT NOW? Seriously, if you don't check out any of the other bands I post about just do me a solid and listen to NEEDLES//PINS.
2. Dum Dum Girls (youtube link)
I aspire to be in a band like the Dum Dum Girls one day. I Will Be is a record that really speaks to my dreamy pop, lo-fi loving nerdiness...I truly think they perfect it with this album. Dee Dee's vocals really pull it all together though, with the perfect combination of hazy and doomy. I also really love that it's not a super technical or complicated record, it's very simple and it excites me (I literally get butterflies in my tummy when I listen to Oh Mein M). Their cover of Sonny and Cher's "Baby Don't Go" is absolutely stellar and I feel as if the Dum Dum Girl's version should have been the original, with the sound really matching the lyrical story.
3. PEARS (bandcamp link)
I've been listening to the new material that PEARS have recorded a lot lately. If you are unfamiliar with PEARS you should really make an effort in checking them out. I first heard them last year on Ryan Young's podcast Anxious & Angry and have not been able to stop. Within this past year, PEARS have grown into something beautiful: signed to Fat Wreck Chords, released excellent records/demos, been fortunate enough to play incredible and reputable fests, and have been touring non-stop with stellar bands. They work mega hard and it really shows. They also happen to be the kindest bunch of dudes you'll ever meet. I have so much love for these guys and the music they create.
4. Night Birds (bandcamp link)
These rad guys just released their newest record a couple days ago and it's quite the manic banger! If you love surf and punk rock then these New Jersey babes are doing something you'll wanna sink your teeth into. Their stage presence and energy matches their music 100%.
5. Diane Renay (youtube link)
It's kinda hard to find a whole collection of Diane Renay's but this song in particular (click the link) is my favourite. I first heard this song on a short DIY film called Skate Bitches by Samuel Shanahoy, which has a stellar soundtrack in general. here's a link to the film Skate Bitches
