So an old friend of mine was talking about joining the Scientologists.
Normally I would vehemently advise against such considerations, but she had one counterpoint that was so significant that I had to somewhat cede and acknowledge it could be beneficial.
That point is she works in movies, some TV, etc.
The religion/control/exhausting of savings side of things scares me... but it is an efficient business model (as far as cash flow goes).
She's around actors, directors, producers, etc.. all day while working on a project.
I live in an area with a number of significant scientologist centers around, and she's constantly back and forth between here, NY or wherever her team is shooting at.
Joining the group in this area will undoubtedly boost her presence in the industry and can lead to networking connections that could and would be useful to her.
... but still I have qualms about that organization and the way they operate.
The opportunities gained can very feasibly turn into additional sources of income, jobs, and experience in the field that she loves, her career.
In the end, I told her I am still uneasy about it, but that I wished her well if she wishes to pursue it.
Did I handle that right?
