I've had a really long day and am totally worn out right now, but here's an interesting tidbit for the day:

The convenience store 7-11 rhymes in both English and Japanese:

Seven-Eleven / Shichi-Juichi

I discovered this while teaching elementary students how to count to 20.

Wow that is a neat fact.
siamkittie:

jed - sibed

So I just completed 3 days of administering midterm conversation tests at one of my jr. highs. This is torture, for me and the kids. It makes my brain want to explode. Gah.

I think I need beer and pizza for dinner.

Also, I am never allowed to write a drunken update again. I sound like a valley girl when I do.

EDIT: For some...

Thanks for helping me put that situation back into perspective. smile I'm not going to be leaving SG anytime soon, but I think I'm going to keep my modeling interests pretty much exclusively here. I'm not going to be working for people who think women should be skinny and not heard.

Wow, your program sounds amazing. Being in a small town you must be picking up a lot of Japanese. My friend who's teaching in Osaka loves it so much he contracted for an extra year. I really must visit one of these days. What drew you to Japan?
salome:
That's amazing. I admire you for learning Japanese and speaking it so well. Asian languages are too hard for me. I've got Russian and Spanish down, but Mandarin Chinese broke me.

Woohoo! Drunken update! Gah, I can't even type properly right now, I keep hitting the key NEXT to the one I actually want (fortunately I'm proficient enough with the backspace key to cover up).

So I wanted to go to Osaka/Kyoto to say goodbye to Fenchurch cuz her time in Japan is up, but she was booked solid (as I figured she would be, I...

AWESOME drunken update wink

The 2 page min thread is dying, we'll have to get drunk soon and liven things up!

I didn't notice a overuse of awesome to be honest. Whats involved in the rice planting thing is it like Pick your own? Like can you turn up plant some then leave collecting a pittance on your way out.
Lovage is a bland herb, I think it would be a bad idea for the drunk email I guess thats a bit late to say but you know. Having been a train wreck before in my life the emails I received either crushed my human spirit or defacated on it. Maybe thats just me though.
Also thanks for all the replies in SGJP appreciate it. kiss biggrin Cheers Zeb

Sorry, I didn't get around to responding to all the comments from my last post, but I did read them all kiss Here's a brief explanation of my cryptic last entry:

SPOILERS! (Click to view)
I had a friend back in college who was in love with me. He was a terrific guy, but I just wasn't attracted to him. God, I feel like a bitch...

Happy (belated) birthday. Sounds like you had fun. biggrin Keep with it and you'll be able to out-drink Godzilla. There's almost nothing in the world that's as much fun as drunken-karaoke with friends.

And don't get too nostalgic for college. Right now you're in the middle of something wonderful. Trust me, when you get back to the states, you're going to look back on this time as a great moment in your life. Enjoy yourself as much as possible.

I'm not dead, just lazy.

Just thought you'd like to know.

I haven't felt like updating, even though I've had a lot to write about. I had 2 days of field trips, then went to the birthplace of Shingon Buddhism with the Big Boss and his wife. Then slept a lot. Then spent two days in my office. Now I'm on a 5-day weekend, and...

Today was one of those "Only in Japan" sort of days.

This morning a friend of mine who works in Owase, the city an hour north of me, called: "Hi, I'm bored, let's do something today!" So we decided to meet halfway in Kumano (which isn't really halfway since it's a lot closer to me, but it's the next decently-sized city between us).

I got...

thank you so much about your comment!
the funny thing is, even though i know that i will most likely feel like shit afterwards, i still go out, hoping that it will make me feel better. surreal
I'm almost recovered from last friday, but this weekend should turn out awesome! at least i hope it will.
I have no idea what they found funny about me, i heard something about my shoes and looks, like: "haha, look at him.." and so on. whatever
witty_pseudonym:
That was odd, and you weren't a tiny bit scared you were being poisoned? I guess people in Japan are a little more trusting than over here

Last night I had a (seemingly) random dream about my ex. Today I got an email from my mom that she and her man just celebrated their 3 year anniversary. Then it hit me: my ex and I had the same anniversary, one year earlier. So I guess it wasn't that random, my subconscious thought of it even though I didn't. It's still weird, though....

Let me tell you, walking around for 3 1/2 hours, up and down hills, in the sun, looking for checkpoints with trivia questions set up around town, that'll wear you out more than you realize. At least, I was a lot more worn out than I knew. Yesterday was the Walk Rally at one of my jr. highs, and it was fun, but I didn't...
