"I felt a great disturbance in the Force, as if millions of voices suddenly cried out in terror and were suddenly silenced. I fear something terrible has happened." ---Obi Wan
There's a lot of feelings about 9-11. But for those who had loved ones among the victims, or who experienced it first hand, everyone else's feelings are irrelevant.
The Day the Skies Went Silent and Still
On that tragic September day I looked to the sky
Not a sign of humanity anywhere in sight
The birds flew like kings, for the first time in years
While a nation was left to drown in their tears
A horror, that assault, an act of shear hate,
brought thousands of lives to an untimely fate.
So many here wounded and millions left to reel
On the day the skies went silent and still
A child cried for his father and a mother for her son.
A million prayers said for the damage that was done.
A man walked in confusion through rubble and ash,
while a country sat in fear of yet another crash.
Firemen carried bodies through the smoke and the flames,
so many faces to see and not know their names.
And a country was left unsure how to feel,
On the day the skies went silent and still.
United we stand and divided we fall,
So a City came together to answer the call;
to search for the wounded, the dead and the lost,
and get them all out no matter the cost.
The rest of the country scrambled to lend a helping hand
And say prayers for the survivors, every woman and every man.
As Americans we all had obligations to fulfill
On the day the skies are silent and still
And I stood there in shock, as I looked at the sky
Fighting back the tears for those who had died
I tried to find solace in the blue white and gray
Of the clouds that watched over that terrible day
And I imagined the Gates of Heaven opening wide
As a new legion of Angels flowing in like a tide
And the Mal'akim carried them onward until
Our Skies are no longer silent and still.
