Iowa Supreme Court today ruled that same sex marriages are legal! Hurray for progression in what I thought was one of the least progressive states in the union! Oh I'm a little happier to call myself an Iowan today.
That bit of news being said, I'm currently reading "The Live Earth Global Warming Survival Handbook: 77 Essential Skills to Stop Climate Change - or Live Through It." It's been absolutely mind boggling! I've been adopting green ideals for awhile now, but when I saw this book at the bookstore last weekend I picked it up immediately and have since started to work towards going WAY green. I haven't driven in three days, just been riding my bike all over.
Here's a snippet about not using paper or plastic bags (use a tote bag)
1 ton of paper bags = 17 trees, 14 million trees were cut down in 1999 to supply the US with paper bags
1 ton of plastic bags = 11 barrels of crude oil (12 million barrels a year), an estimated 500 billion - 1 trillion new plastic bags used every year, only 1% of which get recycled.
If one million people switched to reusable bags, we'd eliminate the need for one billion plastic bags.
Come on people! Global warming and the trashing of our earth is happening and the effects will be devastating. What's more, simple things will make all the difference. Read up, make small changes, and don't be a burden on the world.
"The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago. The next best time is now." - Chinese proverb

I am all for making changes, and I try when I can, but ya know, the earth will still be here long after humans die out...
