more pictures! i went to a small local zoo on monday and took almost 300 pictures
the following are some of my favorites...
i shot this photo through a fence, although you can hardly tell
so sad to be behind bars at such a young age
this black swan was so pissed at us
we had to keep 5 feet from the fence cause he was reaching over to bite and attack
i don't blame him for being so pissed off.
this was a weird exhibit, it was an in-ground concrete pit with log sections stacked up in the middle
this little guy was trying to reach off the one closest to the edge of the pit, hoping for freedom
he was only there for a split second, but i was following him with my camera so i caught it right on time
do you know the difference between an African and an Asian elephant?
*hint* it's in this picture
i don't know what it is about wild animals in captivity, but they have this somber wisdom about them
i can't get this guy's face out of my mind, he just looked so pained yet peaceful
every time i look at this photo (and the few others i took of him), i feel his sadness
this trip was such good practice for me because i shot in manual the whole time, on manual focus because of shooting through the fences. and i had to act quickly sometimes, like with the baby monkeys and such. they don't wait for you to take their pictures.
i am left with an itching to take a photo vacation.
ah, someday...

The first and last pics are my faves. That last one looks like it was staged. Nice eye to get that position and look on his face. And good on you for shooting in manual too. I used to when I shot B & W film, but as I switched to color and digital I stopped caring. I figured if I wasn't going to be developing them, they'd never be fully my artwork anyway, so I decided it was ok to be lazy

I like the swan shot... Swans are always pretty damn mean birds... go figure!
