damn. one set got rejected (sg member Laurenne)
but... i sent it in AFTER the other one, and they haven't gotten back to us (Frost and me) about the first one yet
so maybe that's good news on that one!!
gah that sucks. but you can't win 'em all i suppose.
it's all good and it's def. good practice!
meli:
Like you said, you can't win 'em all and keeping a good attitude about it is key!

I am one to talk tho. I never even shot my set because I was too afraid it was going to get regected. Boooooo.

Anyways, is the rejected set up somewhere? I would love to take a gander. miao!!
groove:
Fingers crossed on the Frost set!!!
And you're right, it is still good practice...

I just have a Nikon D50 - it's really strange like yesturday I thought I was all good and shit that they all came out well.

Then I started reading the photography group and really realized how much of photography now is photoshop.

Like how Sean gets his images to come out the way he does and whatever. ALL photoshop.

I sent that picture to a friend of mine who is a pro photographer, I didn't ask but he reworked it in photoshop and it looks SO nice.

I really need to learn how to use that.

I bought a 12Gb CF card recently and I am shooting RAW + high quality jpeg at the moment. Previously, I was using RAW only with a 2Gb card. RAW is definately the way to go, but the jpeg files are smaller and that lets me get preview copies off the CF card. They are quicker to download and they are ready to view immediately, which is useful if I can use my laptop during a shoot.

My previous experience in photography was with film in B&W, where I would develop and print my own work. That has helped a lot to learn quickly, but there is a lot to learn on working with colour and PS.

This article on using curves in Camera RAW may be interesting to you. When I sent in my set to SG, I tried converting my RAW files using Camera RAW at first, but I got much better results with Canon's own software, DPP. The skin tones were much better in DPP than in CR and Capture One LE. However, that may reflect my inexperience rather than the best posible from the software.

Having sarted to appreciate how much there is to learn about PS, I bought Adobe Photoshop CS2 for Photographers recently. It's a great book, written in a easy to follow style. If you can browse through a copy at your local bookshop, its well worth checking out.

Good luck with your set and with your job hunting too.

I shot this set with Tragique in February and it was accepted and published quicker than I expected. It was my very first SG style shoot and the very first time I used my lighting gear apart from practice shots in my flat with a badminton racquet as the "model".

You will notice some issues with focus on some of the shots. My camera was repaired before the shoot and returned by Canon with a autofocus problem, which became apparent during the shoot. I sent in all of the shots and SG used some images that I did not expect to see published. My camera is fixed now, but it's such a shame that I had problems at that time. Tragique was great as a model and I am very pleased with the shots that turned out as I planned.

Best of luck with your sets.

m3n4c3:
no word yesterday? hehe excited.

this is just to find out if they like the sample pictures and if they want the set...right?
m3n4c3:
Hey there!
I forwarded you the letter I received from SG. I guess everything is all set with the sample photos and they want the entire set. You probably received a letter too I'm guessing.

So I suppose this is when you apply the logo to all the pictures and submit em?

Oh man, happiness!

biggrin

so i sent in some sample pics last sunday for a set i shot the day before
still haven't heard back yet.
but the last sample pics i sent in for another set were approved in two days.
hmm...
i'm guessing they're going to say no?
groove:
Hmmm... could be. Or maybe they just had a rush of submissions... who knows?
How long is the process for becoming "official"?
m3n4c3:
hmmm although on livejournal you write back to the comments on your own journal (though you can get email alerts, apparently they don't do it on here).

*crosses fingers for samples*

I think either way SG it supposed to let you know, probably a busy rush.
