Garden State: Surprisingly good.
I saw the box and made a few assumptions that this was going to be bad, based on the following evidence- 1: Guy I recognise from ad for TV comedy. Bad sign, see any movie starring a male Friends cast member. 2: Natalie Portman. Sorry, if she's not choking on George Lucas' scripts, it's going to be a shitty rom-com. 3: Young guy from TV comedy turns out to be actor slash director. That never turns out well, especially when a group of young film students try making a film. 4: The cover photo- three cast members in bin liners screaming, suggests "zany" antics and convoluted ways of getting Natalie into some wet clothes. 5: The soundtrack is mentioned on the blurb. 6: The blurb also says the movie is a cult hit. Needless to say, i've been putting off watching it for a while.
So I was naturally surprised when most of what I assumed was wrong. I thoroughly enjoyed the film, and will probably watch it again when i've run out of other stuff to watch- preferably stuff without socially dysfunctional male leads who I completely empathise with.
In other news, i'm eating too much chocolate again. On the plus side, my resolution to win my social life back is looking like a winner- before this week is out, i'll have been drinking at least once in company. I have also come to the conclusion that girls smell.
