Christ! Teaching is one hell of a motherfucker! So, I had my first class on Tuesday and I frankly think I blew it. I hope my natural charm and self-deprecating humor won them over. I seemed to keep most of their attention throughout the hour and a half. Twenty students. Only one or two of the guys in the class were staring off into the parking lot. Otherwise, they seemed pretty interested.
Most of them seem like really, really cool people. I hope I can do them justice. I called Andy Blessing to see if he would guest speak and/or give me a promo pack from one of his bands. He was receptive, but only had time to meet in the morning and I totally missed him.
My technical side of this job is so frustrating sometimes! I don't feel like I can do anything quickly enough. I have to get keys from the right people, I have to find out who has what dongle for Logic and I have to catch them at the right time. I have no idea what the serial numbers for any of these blasted computers are, so two thirds of the software won't run.
There's another Mac tech there helping, but he gets stopped by simple things that he doesn't know by virtue of not being an audio guy. So, like, someone told him Logic wasn't for sale anymore and he gave up on it. That "someone" either was misinformed, not specific enough or flat out lying to him. So, I really can't do anything until they give me the tools I need and let me go to it. But since I don't have those tools, I feel as though I might get the blame for the problems that are occurring because we don't have all the licenses we need right now.
Oh well. At least I have two part time jobs at MSB. If one falls through I can do the other... I hope.
Other than that, life rocks. I love talking to Lilith and hanging out with Joanna. Those are about my favorite two things right now. But I have so much homework prepping for these classes, I feel as though I'm a full-time student!!!!
I hope to get out and enjoy the fall colors. Come hell or high water, I will need to do that on Friday night at least. Tomorrow will be a big day teaching.
