My god.
I was flipping the channels when I came across MTV's Made and saw Justin from Semi Precious Weapons!
I saw them play twice last year -- there first L.A. show at The Viper Room. I was so wasted by the time they went on that I started out their set by flashing the band, then tried to make out with Justin during another song. He was really sweet and just kinda held the microphone close to our mouths and sang while I continued my attempt at swapping spit.
Their next show was maybe a day or two later at The Knitting Factory. I don't know how I'd managed to remember their songs through my drunken haze from the last show, but I sang along and danced my ass off. People were coming up to me after the set asking me about the band, since they're from New York. Like, because I knew the songs and rocked out so hard, I must be with them. I'd just heard about them from MySpace, though. They got a great reaction from the crowd and sold out of most all of their merch. I was so happy for them!
Anyway, I was amazed to see them on MTV -- MTV was playing one of their music videos -- only a year after their first performance in LA. They made some strides, for sure.
Also, since TMZ mentioned it, I guess it's okay for me to say it now, too. Looks like Steve-o is gonna do Dancing With the Stars next season! I've never watched the show, aside from clips on The Soup or YouTube, but it looks like a fun show and when Steve-o mentioned the possibility of doing it I was like, "Awwwwwwesome!"
I don't know what it is about seeing people I know -- or have at least first met in person -- on TV. The other day I saw a girl I went to school with on How I Met Your Mother. Then I saw one of my old neighbors on Mad Men. There's the split second of trying to place the recognition. Actually, it's the same thing when I see someone in person that I've only seen on TV, too.
