In December 2010 my Dad (my hero) was diagnosed with Alzheimers disease.
For my Mum, Dad & me this was the most heart breaking day we have ever had to face together.
The man who taught me how to read and write, how to play chess and how to be a decent human being will one day not be able to remember how to do these things himself.
As each day goes by a little more of my Dads memory escapes him. All of the memories I share with him will no longer be shared and knowing this is painful beyond words as is knowing that one day this terrible terminal illness will one day kill him.
Due to government cuts Dad can't even get the medication he so desperately needs yet and is stuck on what seems to be another endless waiting list. My Mum is struggling to cope with balancing her job and caring for Dad as she can't afford to live off the pitiful 40 per week carers allowance she is being offered.
So this year on Sunday 25th September I'm taking part in The Memory Walk on behalf of The Alzheimers Society. This is to raise awareness and help support all of the people in a similar situation and all of the future generations who will be faced with this terrible terminal illness.
I've set up a Just Giving page and ask you all to please sponsor me and give generously to this fantastic cause that is so close to my heart. All money donated goes straight into Alzheimers Society's account so they can put your generosity to good use straight away.
If you have a UK mobile you can donate 1 by texting
DENS74 1
to 70070
Alternatively you can change the amount to 2, 5 or 10
To donate direct to the charity go to http:www.alzheimers.org
Peace.
