So... when I got to Arizona last April, I was showing other soldiers copies of my orders trying to determine where I was going to be stationed when I got to Fort Hood. Sometimes the unit names can be a little difficult to decipher and I wanted the info so that I could sleuth online and find out when I'd be deploying and to where (Iraq and Afghanistan being most popular these days).
Well, one of the soldiers I talked to was from Fort Hood and told me that I was going to the 1st Cav and even told me when I would be deploying. He seemed so certain that I took what he said and ran with it. I told *everyone* (including some people here on SG) when I was going to Iraq.
So imagine my surprise when I get to Fort Hood yesterday and they tell me that... even though he couldn't decipher the unit code, it most definately was not 1st Cav.
What does this mean to Mr. Loins? That even though Iraq part 2 will most definately be in my future... it may not be in my immediate future. This makes for one happy SirLoins. As a side, I just linked to myself.
However none of this is certain yet. I won't find out with any degree of certainty until this Thursday where/when I'm going overseas.
I know the adage goes "don't count your chickens before they've hatched" meaning don't get ahead of yourself and especially don't get your hopes up, but this is advice I clearly have not adhered to.
Edit: I want to apologize to everyone who bought me drinks at the last SGLA dinner. I feel like a total fuckwad gaytard for misleading everyone (even though I, myself, was mislead). My family gave me $600+ (as if I don't have a job) and after talking on the phone with my mama, she said she knew of a nice man here in Texas who will take the money back or else break my thumbs.
Edit 2: On a positive note, I had to use an electric trimmer to trim my beard before shaving it off. I figured what the hell? As long as I have it out, I'll trim my cash 'n prizes a bit.
